When Can Dads Get Help NOW?
Working from home. The phrase conjures up warm ‘n fuzzy images of padding around in your robe and slippers, coffee in one hand, newspaper in the other, soft music playing as you work quietly among personal belongings, enjoying task lighting adjusted for no one’s eyes but your own,
Hey, it’s a glamorous life, but someone’s got to do it
Is working from home really so great? Internet marketing guru Seth Godin said, “If I wasn’t already running my own business, today is the day I’d start one.”
But what about the money? Your schedule? Your family?
Let’s say you have been working at home for a while now, but aren’t bringing in the big bucks you envisioned. You love running the show and being your own boss. No more boring meetings, horrible commutes, or being nickel-and-dimed to death by fees, lunches, copious cups of Starbucks coffee and dry cleaning. No wearing a suit everyday and working on someone else’s clock, where you need permission to go to the men’s room.
That is all great. That is what keeps you firmly planted in your home office. But...when you really look at the cost - to yourself, your family, your bank balance - you wonder if you’re doing the right thing.
Like most work at home Dads, your day probably goes something like this:
- You’re not making enough money. There is so much you could be doing, but you are only one man. Will you ever be able to “turbo charge” your workday to increase your income, without working even longer hours?
- You are having trouble with your schedule. You actually put in more hours working from home than you ever did at the office! You just can’t seem to stick to a schedule or stop checking your email.
- Busywork, like email, chatting, reading online, and filing paperwork are sucking up your day and your energy. You frequently lose enthusiasm for getting into the real meat of your job.
- Online marketing confusion is making your head swim. Did you Twitter today? How about logging on and checking your FaceBook, MySpace, and LinkedIn accounts? Oh, and don’t forget to check your HubPages statistics. Good grief! Who can get any work done in this online world?
- Loneliness is a big factor. You spend most of your day working alone. Your wife is the nearest human, but she’s not supportive of your home business (she even has trouble understanding it), so conversation is at a minimum. Your friends think you are playing games online all day, and your family keeps asking, “When are you going to get a REAL job?”
The truth? Working from home is about as un-“glam” as it gets.
Entrepreneur. com reports:
“No one becomes an entrepreneur to fail. From the time we have our “great vision” until the time we finally decide to take the leap and try and make it happen, we do so with the absolute expectation that we'll succeed.
“But as the saying goes, “If it were easy, everybody would be doing it,” and for many entrepreneurs, that soon becomes a personal reality. With few exceptions, every entrepreneur must struggle through some very dark and difficult times before eventually, if their luck matches their determination, pulling out a winner.
“Unfortunately, for every one who succeeds, there are far more who don’t. For them, their hidden pain is both complex and deeply personal.”
If you are committed to staying out of the corporate world... if you value your freedom above all else... you need terrific support and assistance to truly achieve success, whatever success means for you.
The wrong kind of help will only distract you further. But the right kind of help and direction can help you attract more business, make more money, and streamline that busywork that is holding you down.
The decision to work at home is not based simply on logic. It also has roots in need and desire. If you have made the decision to succeed in working at home, you’ve got to make it work for you...for your wife...for your children... for your sanity.
