Turning Negative Experience into a Positive

How bad things can work to our good

One of the things I consider dangerous involving the handling of emotions is always discussing them.  Talking about negative feelings usually waters it into larger growth. Have you ever been angry, and the more you talked about it, the angrier you got? I’m not sure who started the trend of reliving hurtful emotions on purpose so you can work through them. But in all honesty, after twenty five years of running clinics that hurting people came to daily, I have never seen that technique heal. Many people get “trapped” in counseling because they pick things apart so much that they will always need a therapist to help them cope. They miss today, and therefore tomorrow by dissecting the past. I’m not advocating never talking about your feelings. That would be a miserable state of being.  I am, however saying, that once you pinpoint them, change it to a spiritual positive, and get on with life! Leave damage control up to God.

Some people do their best thinking  in the shower, others outside enjoying nature.  Mine seems to happen when I am driving a car. Sitting at a busy intersection at a red light, the car behind me kept beeping the horn.  If you are from the south, you know that car horn beeping is extremely rude unless it’s an emergency! She alerted me that I had a flat tire. So I hobbled my car over to the nearest gas station, went in and bought a can of stuff called “fix a flat”. I didn’t know if it would work, but it was my only option. Hopefully it would allow me enough time to get home so I could yell at my husband. After all it was his fault. I wanted to ask him why he sent me out in a car that was going to have a flat tire. The day was truly a hot day.  I barely had enough cash on me to buy that can of fix a flat. I couldn’t figure out how to do it, so a stranger stopped to help me. I was aggravated and agitated. The Holy Spirit said, “Are you going to change this to a positive? Are you going to walk in what you have been teaching?” I wasn’t sure how to change this to a positive, exactly. The only thing I could think of was: “God, I don’t know why I had a flat tire; but I trust you implicitly. I believe that you allowed me to have that flat tire because there might have been something happening down the road that you have prevented me from being involved in it. Perhaps there is a wreck. I don’t know, God; but whatever it was, this time delay is going to work to my good. I know it is because my life is in your hands. I praise you that I had this flat tire. Weight Warriors

Do you know what? It was accurate! Traveling toward home, I saw the very exit I would have gotten off at had a major car accident.  The police or ambulance had not yet arrived, so it happened while I dealing with my flat tire. Had I not had that flat tire, how I might have been involved in it.. If I had not changed the negative to a positive in the spiritual realm, I would have been mad. I would have been aggravated. I would have been wondering why God let his happen to me. I would have gotten all flustered and frustrated, having my blood pressure rise. I would have probably hit a drive-thru to get something to eat to help me get through it. But I tell you what. I changed the negative to a positive in the spiritual realm, and look what happened. It was worth it after all.

How many of you have had bad things happen in your life? Now that you look back on the bad things that happened, can you not honestly say that it all worked out for your good? Every bad thing that has happened to me in my life has worked out for my good. It just always has., Romans 8:28 says this, “All things work to the good for those who love the Lord, for those who are called according to His purpose.’ You know what? The Bible means just exactly what it says. ALL things work to the good for those who love the Lord, for those who are called according to His purpose. Even a flat tire. The Holy Spirit knew there was a wreck ahead. I didn’t. He’s watching after me. All things work to your good. Now, look, we can either get with this truth immediately and start praising God which will gives the secret of being content in every situation.

Praying away the negative
