I joined Twitter back when it first came out in 2007. The only reason I joined was to secure my user name "jtmartin". A buddy of mine had told me that it was going to be the next big thing in social media. He new that I was into Web 2.0 and was using social bookmarking and social news sites for SEO purposes. I made my first Tweet on Oct, 22nd 2007. From then until the beginning of this year I never really paid to much attention to my Twitter account. I had set up the Twitter Tools plugin on my Word Press blogs so that when ever I made a post, it would automatically tweet it. My account grew slowly as people interested in my blog posts, followed me.

In November of 2008, I became a member of Alex Jeffreys coaching program. He was also into the Web 2.0 thing and building relationships using social media. He kept going on and on about Twitter so decided that I should start taking it a little more seriously.

I made it a practice to spend some time every day and start seeking out people with similar interests. when you find someone that has the same hobbies and interests then you follow them. Normally, when they see that you have the same interests as them, they follow you back. That is how it works.

After several months, I was able to build a following of about 900 people. The problem was that I was spending a lot of time on Twitter. I have a wife, 3 kids, a dog, and a 40 hour a week job. I am trying to build a profitable online business at the same time which does not leave a lot of time to Twitter.

I was never really interested in the concept of chatting or texting for that matter. I started looking at different Twitter applications to see if I couldn't automate some aspects of the Twittering. That was a monumental task in itself. Do you realize how many Twitter apps have been developed over the last 2 years? Hundreds!

One of my fellow students saved the day. Vince Craine has a friend who is a professional programmer for the banking industry. He created a Twitter software that took the best features of all the most popular Twitter applications and combined them into the ultimate Twitter tool.
