Twilight Series Best Young Adult Read 2008
I was introduced to the first book in the Twilight series in July of 2008. My neighbor has two teenage girls and was reading it with them. Then I was at Costco looking at the book section. The last book book of the 4 book series, Breaking Dawn has just been released. There was a mom with 2 young children looking at the book. She said that she was waiting for her sister to finish it and send it to her. She went on and on about how great all the books have been.
I was heading out of town to Phoenix, that week for a Sales Seminar that my company, United First Financial had a booth at. I love to read while flying so I asked to borrow, Twilight, the first book of the series from my neighbor. That was the beginning of the end for me. I started reading the book while I was waiting at the airport. I instantly fell in love with the characters. Bella was quite and observant. Edward was mysterious and beautiful. Maybe I am just a sucker for the love conquers all theme.
Needless to say I finished the book in 3 days. I wanted to read the second book of the series, New Moon. I stopped in the book store at the airport on my way home. The store was not very big, I looked everywhere for it. Finally I asked for help. They took me to the one place I did not look, the Young Adult section. I was a bit embarrassed. I could not believe that I was this excited about a young adult book. Well, I was half way done with New Moon by the time I returned home. In this book, the character Jacob Black, played a much larger role in Bella's life. There is betrayal, a love triangle, and suspense. What makes a better story.
I had caught up to my neighbor by that time. I waited for her to finish the third book, Eclipse. this is about how the relationships Bella has with Edward, her vampire boyfriend and Jacob, her werewolf best friend, who thinks he is in love with her. Bella is always finding herself in situations where she needs to be rescued.
Breaking Dawn is the last in the series. This book looks at the lengths that people with do for the ones they love. There always seems to be something looming in the horizon for Bella and Edward. I truly am a sucker for love no matter the age.
These books have given moms and their daughters reasons to talk and interact. I have met many Twi-Moms,as they call themselves. Anyone from the age of 12-85 will like these books. They are very easy reads. The characters are easy to love and hate. It brings up issues of love, friendship, honesty, and relationships. It opens doors for discussions on all these topics and how it effects our lives as well as the characters.
These are great books. I now have all my own copies and have read them all many times. I now give them as gifts and hope that the next person to read them gets as much enjoyment out of them as I did.

Excellent hub! I, too found myself in your shoes. I heard the hype and decided to pick one up. Three days later, I put the fourth one down. I was a little embarrassed to say that I love, love, loved a teen saga. But, while reading, it was hard to believe it was a teen series. Some adult content for sure. "Where did all of these feathers come from?" Hee hee.
I loved it!

I so agree with you, especially about the feathers part. I like the way she did not really go into detail about that part, but we all know what happened.
Thanks
I hate to admit it, but I too am a huge fan of the book and the film. I'm not one to follow the masses, but the characters and the story are quite amazing. You have no idea what a challenge it was to find Eclipse here in my city. B. Dalton has yet to call, but I just grabbed the last copy at Target this past Saturday. One of my friends is also thrilled that her 13 year-old daughter is temporarily disconnected with video games and actually reading.

I admit to not being much of a reader but I do appreciate that those who are get serious satisfaction, knowledge and entertainment from the process. Great article. If I were a reader you told me more than enough that I would certainly buy the first book to check it out. Great hub, even with the video trailer. Impressive!
