There are more blended families than ever today. Bunk beds can be the ideal solution when it comes to trying to figure out a way to allow all of the children from a blended family to sleep comfortably.

Bunk beds usually consist of a twin over twin bunk bed. This is the most traditional style of bunkbeds and has been used in different sleeping areas for years. The twin over twin bunk bed is the most common style of bunk beds and consists of two twin beds that are placed vertically over one another, supported by wood or metal poles on the corners of the beds. There are some cases where a twin over twin bunk bed can be taken apart and you can have two separate beds. Many of today's bunkbeds, however, are one piece and have a metal frame.

Because blended families are so very commonplace today, bunk beds make perfect sense, especially if there is a case where the children are weekend visitors. Many moms with kids marry dads with kids these days. This is what is called a blended family. In most cases, the mom has custody of her children and the dad in the family sees his kids on weekends or every other weekend. This is standard arrangements but vary with different families. In some case, both parents in the situation have custody and in others, they share custody with their ex spouse. There are also cases where the couple who gets married has a child together as well, really binding the siblings as they now have a blood relative in common.

If you have your spouse's children coming over every other weekend and sharing a room with your children, you may want to opt for bunkbeds. This way, your children do not have to give up additional space in their rooms but your spouse's children will still have a place to sleep when they visit and will be made to feel at home. Bunkbeds are just one solution to the many hurdles that you will have to overcome when you are thinking of blending families.

One type of bunk bed that you can choose for such a scenario is the futon bunk bed. The futon bunk bed has a double bed on the bottom that folds up into a sofa. It has a futon style mattress that folds with the metal frame, enable it to go from seconds from a sofa to a bed. The top bunk is a twin bed. This is an ideal choice if you have kids who are hosting their step brothers or step sisters over because they can use the futon as a sofa when the other child is not visiting. The futon mattress has a slip cover that is available for it that operates like a pillow case and you can also purchase sheets for this mattress as well.

Another option is the twin over full bunk bed. This is similar to the futon bunk bed except it does not fold up into a sofa and the bottom bed is a full mattress instead of a futon mattress. This is a good idea because it can actually sleep three kids at once. If you have two kids already sharing a room and bunkbeds, you may opt for the twin over full bunk bed if another child is to join the group. It often seems to happen that in such families there are many kids of one gender and one child who is a boy or a girl and who gets lucky enough to have their own room. Most parents will make sure that they separate children of opposite gender when it comes to sleeping arrangements by the time the children are 7 years old.

The full over full bunk bed is yet another option if you end up marrying a guy with two boys and you already have two boys and one girl. In your case, if you have a three bedroom house, you probably have your two boys sharing a room and your daughter has her own room. The two additional boys who will spend the night once in a while will need a place to sleep. If you get a full over full bunk bed, your two boys can have full sized beds in which to sleep when the other kids are not there and everyone can bunk in together when the two other boys come to visit. The full over full bunk bed is a better idea than trying to cram four beds into a room or two sets of bunkbeds.

When you have a blended family, you will want to do whatever you can to make sure that you welcome the children who are coming to visit. It can be very difficult for your own children to give up space in their rooms for other children. This is not something that most children will gladly do as they see their rooms, and rightfully so, as their own personal space. However, you do not want your future spouse's children to feel unwelcome in your home. You want them to feel that your home is their home away from home. For this reason, bunkbeds can be a very viable solution.

Most kids love bunkbeds because of the ladder and imagination possibilities. If you approach your children with the idea of getting new beds for their new overnight guests, they may be more receptive to sharing their rooms with the kids of your spouse. Bunkbeds can be the ideal way to blend your families together.

When you have bunkbeds, you can maximize the amount of sleeping space that you have in each room. You can have a twin over twin bunk bed, a full over full bunk bed, a futon bunk bed or a twin over full bunk bed and satisfy the needs of all of the children while making the idea of sharing their rooms with other kids fun and not space confining. Bunkbeds are the ideal solution for the sleeping solutions for a blended family.
