Twitter: Why Twitter is Special
76Meet Special People
This hub is in response to Anath who wrote, "The Twitter Phenomenon" hubpage. Part of my life philosophy is that whatever you put into an activity is what you take out. Not exactly "even-stevens", but I believe you will find your reward in your attitude and effort. And, if you find the activity not particularly rewarding, then you will eventually remove yourself from that environment or desist from that behavior.
Twitter Compared to Hubpages
If I compare Twitter to Hubpages, I would say that I am more involved on a daily basis with Twitter. I love Hubs and what it has to offer, but I'm getting more daily feedback from Twitter. I just celebrated my "One-Year" Hubpages anniversary ~ Cheers and Balloons, Whoopee! I can't believe it's been that long.
I've written a total of 33 Hubs and each one has taken me many hours to write. I may be a perfectionist or just want to give a lot of value, but these articles take a lot of research and thought. I must consider the topic of interest and my point of view. It takes a number of steps to create the flow of the article, title, subtitle, links, and images. I like for my articles to be unique and not run-of-the-mill and hopefully to answer people's questions about the issue of concern. Even the most "fun" article took me an immense amount of time. [That was about the singing group "Chairlift" and I listened to the artists for hours and researched their meteoric rise to fame.]
In all of that year, I have 150 fans, but I do not have constant interaction with them. This tells me that some people have read at least one of my hubs and have enjoyed it in some way. I'm extremely appreciative they took the time to read it, comment, become a fan and/or rate it. I consider that the "reward" which I mentioned at the top of this article. I usually reciprocate by visiting their hub and becoming a fan. I think people want to be loved and appreciated and feedback does that. Something also tells me I may have a somewhat competitive spirit because I love seeing the numbers go up and like getting a good grade on a paper, I'm reaching for a "100." There's that 'perfectionist' quotient again.
Repeating the premise, you reap what you sew and get out what you put in, I have not been a consistent hubber. I may have stayed up nights at the beginning just waiting for someone to comment and read my hub, but I no longer do that. I feel more like a citizen journalist here, providing news and information with editorial comments. [See Chicken Little Story]
Comparing the rewards to Twitter, I have 2600 followers, while I am following 1831. It is true that I am not interacting with all of these people on a daily basis. I would say that there are a good number that I am on a daily and/or weekly basis having some conversations. Over the course of ten months since I started Twitter I've had mostly excellent experiences, besides the typical spam noise interference.
- The difference between Hubs and Twitter is the immediacy in response and that Twitter is a microblog. I usually SHARE my Hubs on Twitter and hopefully reach a broader audience of readers.

The truth is that, "You are where ever your mind is!" And if I invested loads of time on Hubpages, getting involved with all that is offered here, I'm sure I would find it just as rewarding as Twitter. I once stayed up late writing haiku and some of the other interactive tools in Hubtivity and Forums. I know that there are many groups of friends who meet on a regular basis and then also meet in-person. That happens with Twitter, too. So, I believe it's just a matter of selecting your platform of interactivity.
Twitter reminds me very much of email, where you can direct message and also put the @ symbol. I love mail, so this is a great reward.
It's your choice with whom you form relationships. I prefer those who are sending positive affirmations and meditations. This is what uplifts my spirit. The main thing is live your life to the fullest and remain positive. Send love into the universe and it will be returned in kind.

Dear Trudy ~ Very nice of you to visit. What's your twitter name?
very well information, Debbie. This is cool hub. I see from your picture that you have great follower. How to get thousand followers like you. Please share with us. thanks
Hi Prasetio30 ~ Getting "great" followers is a matter of taking time to read about each person and decide whether you really want to have them as a follower. Do they tweet about subjects of interest to you? Are they 'giving' tweeple? Do they share and interact? Are they there for their own purposes or to make the world a better place? This is the same policy for followers and following. To make ties and connections with others who are similar in nature but may have different fields of interest. Good luck, Debby
Hi Debby, I agree what you put in you get out and if its fun you spend more time there than you should. My fun activity on twitter is the conversations, I love who I meet and anything you do you can share including hubs so its double cool.
Twitter for me is a place to spread my links.
Hi Anamika ~ me too. I write the Hubs and then tweet them so others will come visit Hubpages. Thank you for visiting tonight. Love, Debby
Great hub - I am just getting the hand of twitter. I find it enjoyable, but haven't got as many followers so I'll keep going.
