Two Brothers, Lion's Retribution
The silver face lights the savanna
as we stalk them.
They who slew our kin,
Our prey and our pride.
They came with machines,
And smoke and greed.
They are un-like their dark skin
Brothers who know our breed.
These men consume without heed
To the lessons and the laws in the land
Where we feed.
Only my brother and I remain,
The others fled.
We will die soon,
Our levy paid.
My brother and I
Savored the fear of them,
Their blood,
their flesh.
These impudent weaklings
That usurp our majesty.
If they had left us alone,
they would have avoided this tragedy.
We do not hate them,
they are of little use,
These weak things that must use tools with hands of fools.
My brother is now dead.
A hole of red in his chest.
The sound of thunder I hear now,
It is my call.
My end,
My life is ful,
because our enemies now know our fear.
Mother,
welcome us home.
Terrible Majesty
- The Tsavo Lions
Where they are now.

Told ya I was working on it :) I am glad you like them. More to come on this theme.
How was I to know you, were one of those guys that actually does what he says? :)
Don't tell my wife! (wink)
Aww, it's sad how anybody be separated from their kinds?! This deserves a round of applause. I'm sure you heard of Christian the Lion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjWtRYaxmWM
Mayhmong, I just watched the story of Christian. What an amazing story! Thank you for sharing it with me on this hub, it strikes a point I try to make about animals and makes one wonder; is it we, or they that are the chosen? I look around at all the atrocity which lay at the feet of my kind, and I must think that is we who are the devils, and they the Divine.
Beautiful. Simple yet complicated beauty. To destroy what we do not consume is great loss, indeed!
Great work, capturing this point of view. I enjoy your work very much.
Candie V, and Not Telling. Thank you for the kind words, and the visit.
Touching and brilliantly worded.

Was this inspired by Two Brothers (movie about lions)? Anyway, this was great and thought provoking. Thanks for sharing :D
Cris A, It is. I first saw the Tsavo Lions when I was a child visiting the Field Museum here in Chicago, and the story always fascinated me. They are also represented in bronze outside the Chicago Art Institute.
Kushal, thanks for the compliment. I think that is the first time that anyone has called something that I wrote brilliant. I am flattered.
Then I suggest you try to see the movie if you havent. I'm sure you'll like it. Lions are mythical creatures indeed as in the Ghost & the Darkness (thanks for the video by the way - i'll try to watch the movie again).
Again, great poem! :D
Cris A, I just watched the trailer for the movie "Two Brothers". I have to say that I was ignorant to that film (it has not been released here yet, June 25th) until you mentioned it here. Needless to say the movie you mention is about Tigers and is ironically tame compaired to the Story of the Tsavo lions. I will make it a point to see it here once it is released. http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/two_brothe
LOL I did say lions - tigers tigers TIGERS! Sorry about that. Yes it is quite lame - but compassionate and eye opening just the same.
Now I really must see the Ghost and the Darkness again as I'm reminded of the Tsavo lions' majesty (great word to describe them, btw). I wonder if NGC or BBC has a docu?
I said TAME not Lame brother. The lower link is a documentary about Tsavo lions. I am not sure who produced it. Also the link to the Chicago Field Museum ("Where they are now") tells the story of these brothers that killed over a hundred workers on the railroad project through their territory. Their story makes one wonder if they were not fighting for their land as opposed to just hunting. Hence my inspiration to write from their perspective.
