Swine Flu (H1N1) - Closing More Schools

Although the virus on this day of May 5, 2009, is being considered not quite as serious as was previously thought, two schools in HISD (Houston, TX) have just today closed down due to the Swine Flu (H1N1).

There is a great deal of debate regarding whether or not this virus has been taken too seriously and arisen too much of a sense of panic.

This same pandemic caused a great number of deaths back in 1918. This year, the CDC and the World Health Organization has attempted to make certain that they did not repeat the mistakes made in the early 1900s, which included a lack of information provided to the public. However, the question is raised as to whether or not too much information has been as harmful as not enough.

One of the main differences that has been mentioned regarding this Swine Flu (H1N1) breakout is that this influenza virus has mutated. However, the seriousness of this particular Swine Flu (H1N1) still seems to be limited to those who already have weakened immune systems, which is the same problem that occurs on a daily basis with any typical influenza.

It is still unclear as to how bad this Swine Flu (H1N1) epidemic will truly get. Authorities are still waiting to see if this virus will adapt to its environment and worsen or whether it may simply die out.
