Two Sportsmen In Need Of Being Needled
56Two Baseball Stars May Need Alternative Therapies
I view Major League Baseball, quite-frequently. I live in the Northeastern United States by way of the Borough of Queens, in New York City. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, which The Dodgers once called Home, but they left Brooklyn when I was 2.75 Years Young, so I never got to see "Dem Bums" play at Ebbets Field.
For me, my "Ebbets Field" Experience, consists of going to a ballpark, in the Kenmore Square Area of Boston, called Fenway Park. People tend to be close to the action, and are really into the Game. I've had the pleasure of watching David "Big Papi" Ortiz. He's a BIG GUY, and hammers the ball to such regions as Lansdowne Street and Deep Right Field. I've seen him do it in Yankee Stadium II, twice at Fenway Park, and once at Citizens Bank Park, in South Philadelphia.
Lately, he's been hitting below the "Mendoza Line", that is, below .200, and clobbering ONLY 1 Home Run. In an Exhibition Series, to open the NY Mets Brand-Spanking New "Citi Field", he couldn't hit a horrible Mets Pitcher named Oliver Perez. I was wondering just what was wrong with David.
Perhaps, as players age, they don't always age like fine wine(Despite what Mets GM Omar Minaya may think). I remember when the Mets made a Blockbuster Deal to obtain 2nd Baseman Roberto Alomar. The Year before, he hit over 30 Homers and drove in over 100 Runs witrh the Indians. His fielding and hitting dropped off dramatically, in 2002. People at Shea Stadium, were calling for the head of GM, Steve Phillips.
David, despite injuries last year, hit 23 Homers. One woman, a Red Sox Fan from CT, was in a Boston Sports-Themed Irish Pub, called "The Hairy Monk", at East 25th Street & 3rd Avenue, in the Murray Hill Section of Manhattan. She mused "Maybe David isn't taking his Steroids this year."
Granted, it is Baseball's "Steroid Era", as Barry Bonds showed us, when he hit 35 homers at a younger age, while up close to 40, he hit a record 73 Homers in one Season.
David Ortiz is up near 34 Years Old. You know his power is sinking when he couldn't reach the Right Field Stands, in a ballpark, where balls are flying out at a record pace, namely Yankee Stadium III, where puny pop fly hitters are reaching the stands. Skills in Baseball, start to drop in the Early to Mid 30s. I'm inclined to believe that the Age Dropoff, is in effect here.
Players often take to the Cortisone Shots, to relieve pain, but too much of that stuff leads to a breakdown, if Pedro Martinez is any indication, from 2006 through 2008. That Pitching Sensation is old and worn out. Baseball Players do tend toward Conventional Medical Treatments. "Big Papi", recently said that he needs to get his eyesight checked out.
As one who prefers Preventative-Alternative Type Of Medicine, perhaps Papi needs to clear up Issues in his life, as well as to take care of minor ailments. Seeing Doctors may not do it.
David, you need to get needled, and not with Syringes. You may need to "Unblock Your Qi", to get the energy flowing again, freely. A few good Acupuncture Treatments, may bring back the "Papi" of Old.
Now, for David "Wright-Stuff" Wright of the NY Mets, he's hitting for great average, and OBP, but not for Power, as he has only 3 Homers this Season. Perhaps, Citi Field may frighten him, after all those years at Shea Stadium. He tends to get into a funk in Citi Field, though on the road, he's like a blazing comet.
Perhaps, he needs to address that "Citi" Problem, by freeing up his "Qi". A good idea is Acupuncture to clear his Qi and a good treatment of Reiki, the Non-Invasive Japanese Therapy, may address his fears. Be not Afraid, David, as Citi Field is only a ballpark(& a nice one at that).
