Garrett Arrives

Garrett arrives at the Lisbon airport. After a few mishaps he is at the apartment where he will stay for the next six days. The apartment is on the tip of the cliff... the very last one hanging over the sea.

After sipping wine and eating pate while watching the sunset Garrett unwinds and prepares for the next two weeks of adventures. During his 8ish days in Portugal there will be visits to  Moorish Fortress ruins, German Castles, trips to a variety of beaches, small villages, an exploration to the end of the world as the Europeans knew it before Columbus sailed, much port drank, a train ride to Lisboa and both very good and very bad food will be eaten.

We spent a day in Spain, San Sebastion on the way to France. Must say the city is very beautiful and amazing ....  it would have been nice to spend a little more time here.

Off to France. Spent a few nights in larger cities - Toulouse and Bordeaux, but mostly stayed at Chateau Julie in the Burgandy wine country. As the only guests at the Bed and Breakfast, we were able to explore the chateau and 100 hectar grounds all by ourselves. Very fun. Also explored french castles, walled cities, tasted wines and 4th generation champaign in the caves where they were left to age...  again, just wish we had spent more time in this region.

After wine country headed up to the Fois Grais capital of the world. Yum, geese beware. Fois Grais was being sold everywhere.

We stayed in a castle. Edward1er was rebuilt in the 19th century. The english fortressed town was much older..and yes once again, climbed, crawled, walked through and around very interesting things.

From here drove to Poittier, caught a train to Paris and then a flight home.... Whew

Edwards 1er... we had the room with the top two windows on the left.
