Earlier, I received one from that never ending stream of forwarded emails. An unsuspecting friend sent it to me, expecting me to forward it to the people I know. Unfortunately, that thread stopped with me as I was aware of the facts. I am sure at least some you must have received the same or similar mail at some point of time. For the uninitiated it goes like this.......

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.
It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Hmmm.. Sounds interesting and makes you want to keep it in your reminder, as the mail claims that NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again!
I am sure a lot of people all over the world waited anxiously for this to happen on August 27, 2007, expecting to see this miracle.
Well, perhaps they should have read this first. People saw it first in July 2003, and then again in 2005 and 2006 and now we are seeing it again this year, and I believe we will keep seeing it for a few years more! I mean The Mail. Not the 'phenomena'.
In July 2003, the title of the mail was "Mars Spectacular" or "Close Encounter". Indeed, Mars really did come very close to earth on August 27, 2003, within 56 million Kilometers, making it appear 6 times larger and 85 times brighter than it usually does, in its closest approach to earth in nearly 60,000 years. It is a fact that every 2 years Mars come a littl closer to earth, but nothing 'as spectacular' as in 2003 is going to happen again this year. But these chain letters surface every year predicting the samething, although this year's mail had a common head "Two Moons On August 27".
It is a little ironic that people on some parts of the world will not even see a single moon on that day! A total lunar eclipse is will be occuring on some parts of the world on that day. But this year also Mars will come a little close to earth but it will still be only around 85 million Kilometers and it wil not be anything near the 'Mars spectacular' that happened in 2003.
So people, please stop forwarding this chain letter. Considerable amount of time, energy, money and resources are wasted everyday by people forwarding seemingly useful but false information.

Probably the mail was initiated by someone who saw the moons this way.
I think all we have to do is to wait until such time. just be sure to find yourself on your roof, and if you see nothing on Aug. 27, 2007 12:30AM. we better shut it up.

Well like countless other people, we too observed "just for the heck of it," and the most we saw aside from the full moon was a little-brighter-than-normal pulsar to the N, NE. That was it. Oh and its currently 12:41am, October 27th, 2007.

There's nothing like an eyewitnessand I'm certainly one of them. This is not man's creation, the mathematics to the whole "phenomena" as it has been called, can be calculated and proven that I saw what I saw (and though supposedly, I wasn't in the ideal location for viewing, it was clearly visible to my naked eye), whatever label you want to give to it whether it be "two moons" or "lunar eclipse".
Acctually its true. It is occuring on Monday the 27th. My astromomy teacher told our class. And by the way, of course not everybody will see it, its differnt everywere. Depends where you are.

I agree that these types of emails are crappy and a waste of time but at least they make you go out of the house and behold something beautiful- be it 1 or 2 moons;) or whatever you can see. It's definitely much better than staying on your coach and watching TV.

In Arizona this was actually an eclipse and for a brief bit of time it did appear that there were two moons or an odd shaped moon. Sort of a figure eight, kept shifting as we watched.. then the moon went red/brown and orange.. very cool effect! :)

Don't b stupid it was supposed to happened 5 years ago. It's just the planet Mars passing the earth, which can b seen with the naked eye like a star. So people get real.

June 2009 on a local spanish newspaper in Los Angeles (La Opinion), stated that it's been predicted by the Maya!!! That it's written on some rocks in plain sight. But then again, they make simple and I mean simple grammatical errors, including writting in Spanglish (mix of English/Spanglish).
I don't know much about orbits and astronomy but wouldn't two moons that close to the earth cause huge monsoons, earthquakes, and all kinds of damage to the planet?
I mean besides it make werewolves go crazy!!! Ha Ha

They keep circulating these messages and send it without even verifying it, it becomes spam later on. I hate such CC mails. When I know it is not addressed to me, I don't even read it.
