Fever is an unusually high body temperature, a thermometer is used to measure the body temperature, temperatures varies when taken in different part of the body, if it is taken in the rectum/anus the temperature is generally one degree higher than if the temperature is taken under the arm, on a degree lower. Pyrogen is a substance that induces fever or rise in the body temperature. Fever is not a disease but symptoms of another sickness. During a fever, the body requires extra energy, which it generates by muscular activity in the form of shivering and by metabolizing (chemically breaking down) proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals at a faster rate than normal.

Body Temperature if there is fever:

  • 100°Fahrenheit (37.8° C), taken orally, indicates a mild fever.
  • 100° to 103°F (37.8° to 39.4°C) taken orally, indicates a moderate fever.
  • 104°F (40°C) taken orally, indicates a high fever.
  • 110°F. (43.3°C), this is the uppermost limit of the human body, this kind of fever is extremely rare.

Types of Fever

  • Continued Fever - the temperature remains above normal for long period of time.
  • Intermittent Fever - type of fever wherein body temperature periodically rises and falls.
  • Relapsing Fever - type that recurs sometimes a number of times, several days after the temperature has returned to normal.

Stages of Fever:

  • In the first stage of fever also known as the invasion period the patient will experience chill, loss of appetite, and headache. Chill occurs, occurs because of the tightening of blood vessels near the skin.
  • In the next stage, the body is hot and flushed, the skin dry, and the pulse and respiration are rapid. The patient will experience thirst and he/she will feel restless. In high fever, delirium and convulsions may occur.
  • In the final stage before returning to normal, the temperature falls, breathing and pulse slow down, and the skin becomes moist. The patient often sweats.

Usually, appendicitis patient will come with fever, vomitting and pain on the sides.. The vomitus can be up to half cup each time. Pain on the sides can also be due to other diseases. So if the patient dont have any symptoms, its hard for the doctor to diagnosed.

Dear Sirs; My name is Yoseph I am a medical laboratory technology student While I search for information about laboratory diagnosis of acute febrile illness in order to prepare my seminar paper I got your address. I want to get a note on what acute febrile illness is? How it comes? What are the causative agents? How long it lasts? How fever is produced in the body? And what are the laboratory tests used to asses the disease and why we prefer such laboratory tests and so on by comparing age and sex.Hoping your response soonSincerelyYoseph

Hi,

I am 21 years of age and I live on the island of St.Kitts in the Caribbean which located in the lesser Antilles which is 63 sq-miles. I was at work one morning and I started feeling dizzy and felt very weak so then I went to the hospital which I then discovered my temperature was very high 104degrees to be exact.Doctors then gave me medication and told me take an Advil every 6 hours with a cold bath I felt refresh for a couple hours but started feeling dizzy with tummy pain and my body temperatured was very hot.So then I went to the hospital again the doctor was uncertain what was happening to me I was then informed that I may have fibroid and unknown virus.I was treated with medication and was placed on drips and was discharged from the hospitals 4 hours after.Next day I felt worst I was so cramped that I could not walk, my ears were hurting my tummy was paining, vomited so much that started vomiting blood,my eyes felt like they were bulging through my head and stomach was burning like flames were inside of me and my lips where sore and cracked up for days I had no appetite I lose 10lb, my blood pressure was low and my body temperature was now 105 degrees. The doctor still had no sign of what kinda a virus I had was given two paracetamol and was 3 bags of drips with a cold bath. This lasted a few hours. I was treated in the hospital for 6 days with blood test, drips and medication every day for the doctor to discover what kind of virus I have contracted. That's when I found that I was suffering from dengue fever.I am asking what kind of virus do you think I had contracted?

Hi I am 24 years living in the Philippines I encounter a problem after eat a kind on Ice Cream Sundae Mc Dip I buyed Sundae being refrigerate in 1 hour then I used to take it out from the refrigerator in 5 minutes after that i put it back again without even touching it. Then the day (24hours) after I stock it on refrigerator 2am in the morning I used to eat it but in 5 minutes I feel weak and starting to get chilled, the chilling last for 2 hour and then after that a high fever occurs which calculated by the thermometer 40.5 degrees and lasted for 2 hours also and then I become Thirsty I used to take more water that morning then 6am I feel better I am worried about that. My Question is that Is there a bacteria that develops during the in and out of that Ice Cream and may also cause and infection?

Thanks You.

Hey Evan, i'm assuming you put the ice cream in the freezer, right? Then wouldn't the low temperatures kill any bacteria that would supposedly grow?
