Types Of Curtain Rods
72Owning a home is one of the most important purchases anyone can make. Once a home is purchased and the homeowner moves in, they will want to begin decorating. It does not matter how many windows are in a home, that window needs to be covered. If the homeowner decides to purchase curtains, they will be looking at window curtain rods. A long time ago there were not a lot of styles or types of rods to choose from. As far back as the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the only ones on the market were wooden curtain rods or metal frames. The metal rods only came in the colors white or black. The wood rods were either plain or stained in the colors dark, medium or light.
Today’s home decorating, many types of curtain rods can be found in popular home decorating stores, hardware stores and mass retailers. Today, the homeowner and designer have a lot of options to choose from. There are cafe rods, spring tensions rods, wide, magnetic, crystal clear and bay window curtain rods.
The café rods can be purchased with a wooden, metal, brass or nickel finish. These types of curtain rods can be found in various sizes like 1 ½ inch, 7/16 inch, ¾ inch and a 5/8 inch rod. This type is something used for window which have curtains that will be positioned in the middle of the window. This means the homeowner will see the top portion of their window exposed while the bottom is covered by the café rod and curtain. They do vary quite a bit in price. They range from $41 to over $100. These prices reflect the type of material and length the homeowner or interior designer purchases.
The spring tension rods do have a spring in them which allows them to expand or fit in a particular window or doorway. These rods can be found in the round or oval shapes and can be purchased in the sizes of 7/16 inch, 2 ½ inch, ¾ inch and 1 inch as well. The tension rods also come in various prices ranges. These prices would also reflect the style and material the homeowner wants to purchase. Prices can begin as low as $6 to $30.
Wide sizes are the perfect rod for valances or bay windows. These rods are wide like their name suggests and are typically in the color white and made of metal. Wide curtain rods can be purchased in sizes 2 ½ inch to 4 ½ inches. These can be found as a continental or Dauphine Flat valance too. The prices range from $4 to $50.
The magnetic curtain rods are great for any homeowner or business owner who has a steel framed window or doorway. These magnetic rods will attach to the steel frame and still give the window or door a stylish look to it. The magnets are strong enough to hold many types of curtain styles. These magnetic rods come in shades of antique gold, pewter, antique brown and traditional white and black. Prices for magnetic rods range from $16 to $35.

The crystal clear rods are just that, clear. That is, when a sheer curtain is places through a crystal clear rod, the rod will not be seen. This is because the rod itself is clear. These rods are great for being hidden from the homeowner’s eye. Crystal clear ones can be purchased in the sizes of 7 to 11 ½ inches and 20 to 36 inches. They come in prices as low as $4 and as high as $50.
Finally, finding the right curtain rods are important to any home owner or designer. Today’s styles and designs do not have to be a plain white or black metal anymore. There are rods which have decorative ends, known as finials, on them. These decorative ends might be round, triangle, square, fruit shape and various other styles to work with any room or home. A curtain rod that has these decorative ends will also come in various colors. Because white and black metal rods are no longer the only rods to purchase, today’s rods come in the colors antique gold, pewter and antique brown.
