Did you know that when you drink protein powder your body depending on what kind of protein is it may not digest it right away? That is right the type and quality of protein depends on how much time it take for your body to actually receive this miracle substance. The good thing about this is that we can use this to our advantage!
When you first wake up your body has been starving for hopefully 8 hours. What this means is that while you sleep your body goes into a different state, a state that makes you body digest food at a slower pace. While this may be a good thing to help stop you from starving, it is not always a good thing for muscle development. Remember muscle growth occurs when the body is in a surplus of calories, well with that said you see the problem. You need to have a constant supply of protein in your system while you sleep to be able to achieve efficient muscle growth. This is where the slow digesting power of casein protein powder comes in! Casein protein is a different type of protein as to the standard whey, it is that type of protein which is found in diary products such as milk. Casein is good because once taken it can take up to 8 hours for it to completely digest in your system. This means that if taken before sleep it can effectively keep your body from starving it self all night. What this means is that if you take this protein powder you are more likely to achieve your body building goals.
As I said earlier the most common protein powder; whey, is a rapid dissolving protein. Whey protein can dissolve completely in as little as 30 minutes. Now like casein this has its benefits to, because it does dissolve so fast it is great to take first thing in the morning right after your body has been hungry all night. Another time to drink this shake is right after a intense workout, if taken right after it will; being a rapid dissolving protein powder, go into your muscles to start the muscle rebuilding process. With all this said you need to use these different types of proteins at key times in order to help maximize your gains.
