Types of Terriers

There are numberous types of terriers around the world, especially in United States. You will know the different types of terriers that I will be discussing.

The terrier was originally bred for killing vermin and hunting. They are still very tough and brave despite being small sized dogs. They are also very energetic and lively dogs.

Today, there are more than 50 different types of terriers in the whole world. These types of terriers are being categorized into three different types of terriers namely, hunting/working, fighting and companion.

Hunting/Working Types of Terriers

These are often used to track and search for quarry. Some of the terrier breeds that are in this category are the Jack Russell and the Old English.

Fighting Types of Terriers

These are truly aggressive fighting dogs. They are often used in dog fights which are typically illegal in most parts of the world. Some of its breeds are the Staffordshire Bull and the American Pit-Bull,

Companion Types of Terriers

These are dogs that are actually bred down from the larger terrier types. Although they are considered to be small but they have the true terrier characteristics in them. Some examples are the English Toy Terrier and the Norwich Terrier.

Even though terriers are an energetic and lively bunch of dogs, their sizes varies greatly from the fairly small to the grand size of the Airedale Terrier.

Personally, I find that out of all these types of terriers, I still find the Boston terrier to be what I like. I like them for their alertness, intelligence and good manners. Plus, they can absolutely bond solidly with any families, especially the children and elderly who loves them so much.

But no matter how much I love them, every time I want to train them and they give me problems, I will be frustrated. So it reached a point where I couldn't take it anymore, so I went to search for some guides to help me with training.
