Mixed Martial Arts, the self proclaimed "fastest growing sport in America" is about to become the fastest growing sport in the world.

Already established in the states and Japan and getting bigger every day, MMA is now well established in Canada, with the local promotion TKO and regional UFC superstar Georges St Pierre but also in England, with Rage Cage promotion and a few successful UFC shows already organized overseas.

Also smaller shows in the states like Elite Xc and Strikeforce are starting to be a real threat to the UFC. Elite XC, headed by Gary Shaw, who abuses the questionable poster boy Kimbo Slice as main event since he signed him, got a major TV deal with CBS that will broadcast live Elite XC shows on Saturday nights, in prime time, 4 times a year.

New major events are popping out everywhere like, Adrenaline (defunct M1 Global), Dream (self proclaimed new Pride FC), HBO getting the big fight with Fedor and the latest, quite embarrassing, Yamma Pit Fighting...

Recently, France finally legalized MMA and a major event is expected this coming winter in Paris. Hopefully the UFC will get it, with local fighter Cheick Congo, unless Dana White misses this opportunity too. K1 might have better chances of success with their MMA event, Romanex and Lebanner/Abidi as local stars. They have some MMA experience and are, by far, more popular than Congo.

With all the cross-promotion going on, the UFC being the only one blocking... and loosing their fighters, and with the ever growing TV exposure around the world, the Mixed Martial Arts is not only the fastest growing sport in America today, but will certainly be the most popular fighting sport in the world pretty soon, surpassing old boxing everywhere.
