UNKNOWN CREATURES UP CLOSE
84The Unknown Among Us
There is no shortage of curiosity when it comes to the unknown. Strange and unusual pictures surface all over the Internet from every corner of the world. With photo-shop software available everywhere, the number of sceptics generally exceed the number of believers.
What about Video? I am not talking about movie grade productions, I mean home videos. It would seem those would be much more difficult to alter. Videos were not available for all the oddities below, but I included them if at all possible. I can not say with certainty if these are real or a hoax, you be the judge!
UNKNOWN CREATURE IN RUSSIAN WATERS
Up To Five Feet Long?
CHELYABINSK, Russia -- According to a local report, A strange prehistoric creature has been found in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk. The creature, still unidentified, appeared in a flooded ditch at a construction site. Evidently the deep ditch was inundated by a underground river and sat full of water for quite some time.
The report goes on to say that a few months later, some workers spotted some movement in the water. When they threw some of their lunch in the water, the workers were amazed to see movement in the ditch.
Puzzled, the worked investigated and brought up the creature. When the creature tried to bite, the workers had to kill it with some nearby equipment. The workers estimated the size of the creature at 5 feet.
Since this was translated from Russian, I have to assume they meant 5 inches long. All photos available indicate that size.
PIG-MONKEY?
Pig Creature
Villagers in China were more than a little shocked when this monkey-like pig was born! After news of the piglet spread through Fengzhang village, Xiping township, curious locals flocked to the home of owner Feng Changlin.
"It's hideous. No one will be willing to buy it, and it scares the family to even look at it!" Feng told Oriental Today.
He says the piglet looks just like a monkey, with two thin lips, a small nose and two big eyes. Its rear legs are also much longer than its forelegs, causing it to jump instead of walk.
Feng's wife said the monkey-faced piglet was one of five newborns of a sow which the family had raised for nine years.
"My God, it was so scary. I didn't known what it was. I was really frightened," she said.
"But our son likes to play with it, and he stopped us from getting rid of it. He even feeds it milk."
Neighbours have suggested the couple keep the piglet to see how it looks as it matures. Photos indicate that the piglet is alive and well.
OK, I'm just gonna say it, anyone else wondering what the owner looks like?? I know, I'm awful, but seriously!
Montauk Island, NY
NEWS REPORT
Montuk Monster
Someone call Mulder and Scully! Referred to as the Montauk Monster, people all over are putting in their best guesses trying to identify this creature. Top choices seem to be a raccoon and a turtle with no shell, but I just don't see it.
“This is an actual monster, some sort of rodent-like creature with a dinosaur beak. A tipster says that there is ‘a government animal testing facility very close by in Long Island,’” says Gawker in a posting for Tuesday, July 29, 2008.
Though I was only able to find the one photo on this creature, I do not believe it to be a fake. Definitly an oddity in this world, we may never know what it is or where it came from. Anyone have a guess? What IS this thing?
Sakhalin Shoreline, Near Japan
Where Is It Now?
This creature puts me in mind of characters from the movie The Dark Crystal.
Found by Russian soldiers on Sakhalin shoreline, near to Japan,.According to the bones and teeth - it is not a fish. The skeleton is not that of a crocodile or alligator. It has a skin with hair or fur.
It has been said that it was taken by Russian special services for in-depth studies, never resurfacing again. Fortunately, the people who encountered it first took photos before it was taken away.
I have read enough articles on this find, that I fully believe this to be creditable. What it is, I have no idea, but there is no doubt in my mind that it is somethng real.
Washed Up On Shore In Tampa FL
The Story Behind This....Thing
A man claims to have found these mummified remains on a beach in Tamps, FL. Here is his account of that day.
"I was taking my usual walk down a local beach here in Tampa Florida when I came upon this very strange fish on the shoreline. There was a crowd of seagulls nearby but no matter how hungry they seemed to be they would not get near this sea monster. After making sure it was dead, I picked it up to further examine it. Nearby, a woman, who was the only other person on the beach this day, asked out loud if it was a dead shark. Clutching the strange sea creature in my hand, I walked towards her so she could have a better look at this freak of nature. As I got closer to her, she told me to stop. With a look of horror on her face, she quickly turned and left the area. Afterwards I decided to take it home with me. I measured this cryptic creature at 20 inches long. I decided to list this weird and wonderful fish on ebay to share it with the world. I guarantee that this creatures flesh, teeth, jaw and skull are REAL 100% once living, organic flesh and bones [italics mine]. Though mummified, this unknown species of fish has been cleaned and treated with taxidermy chemicals to preserve and reduce any fish odor to a minimum. "
Something smells fishy alright, Is anyone else thinking a museum would have been your first call? I'm not buying it, but you can decide for yourself.
Sea Serpent
Queensland, Australia
It was December 12th, 1964, when French photographer Robert Serrec reported seeing this creature while vacationing in Queensland, Australia. I have read many articles about the circumstances and they all vary in detail. Some report Serrec was with his family in a row boat about six feet off shore when they noticed the tadpole like creature that was 75-80 feet long. Other reports indicate Serrec was standing on shore for the sighting.
Whether the creature "became bothered and swam off", or "raised its head out of the water causing Serrec to flee in fear", doesn't change much in my mind. After dozens of different searches for other pictures of this beast, I came across the one below. It was the only one that varied from the widely posted image with the boat nearby.
Clearly, this is the exact same shot. That being the case would mean one is altered. Several blog post by "experts" all claim it is highly unlikely that the above picture was created in photo-shop. Claiming the reflections of light would require a genius to produce.
I personally can't find enough to convince me that either of these are real, but who knows?
Further Research
In the interest in getting this hub posted, I am going to go ahead and publish it. I intend to add several more unknown creatures, but the research is taking longer than usual so I will add them through edit. If you are reading this and there are only seven listed, come back soon to see the additions!!

Thats an interesting perspective, that humans are responsible for the existence of these creatures. I never considered that. I'll have to do a little research in to man-altered animals and see what I find. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. :)
Wow!! Those are some weird ones. And yeah I was thinking the same thing. If these creatures were altered by human waste or what not. Another great one Kelly!!
Reminds me of an episode of the simpsons with all the mangled fish.
The first creature is a very large tadpole shrimp. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notostraca
I thought the first one looked more like a Horseshoe crab.
Man altered or evolution??
This brought another thing to mind----Noah's Ark did not kill every creature, just land dwelling ones. It must have been a heyday for the creatures that lived in the waters with all the new fresh food sources!
Nice reporting. I will be back to see what other creatures you are researching. I have a feeling that there are many creatures out there that we know nothing about. Some, like the pig, are mutant, but others fall into the 'prehistoric' category. In 1977 a Japanese fishing boat pulled up some sort of sea monster that looked very much like some oceanic dinosaurs.
wow, cracking hub, very intersting :)
That sea serpent was amazing and the little unknown thingy from Russia looked like it was trying to look them in the eye, and the pig-monkey??? WEIRD. =)) great hub!!
These are amusing, I enjoyed this. Some look more fake than others but all are very interesting in their look and inspiring when it comes to creating fictional monsters!
That was excellent wow it really got me interested. Great job.
Whew, that 3rd image looks like genes were crossed with a dog and a bird, and it went wrong (as would be expected)!! I truly hope humans stop interfering so much with nature, in this case IF they are.
bard of ely, i don't think it could be a shrimp. It's body movement in the picture swim side-to-side...shrimp swim with their tails up-and-down i believe.
the first one reminded me of a horshoe crab :D
anyways, I dont think that brown fish with the teeth and dogface is real though.
the wierd fish scared me lol
Cool. The first one reminds me of something called "billabong bugs" we can buy them in australia they kinda work the same way as sea monkeys. Apparently they are prehistoric and they're eggs lay dormant and crystallised in the sand then water hits a ditch and bang there you go.
The monkey pig thing makes me wonder. Human DNA is very close to pigs and primates, so I am with you on this one Kelly who did what to that poor sow? The rest I don't know. Maybe the Montauk monster is related to Nessie. Or maybe it really is a dog.
Great hub really interesting.
Phoenix - hahahahaa!!!! You are the first to agree, but yeah, something odd going on there!!! :) Thank you for the comment and support!
Those are some amazing pictures, though some are hard to believe. Like the pig-thing.Now that one really gave me the chills! It looks like a cross between a pig and an ogre. The bird creature on the Japanese beach I have to wonder about though. Do birds have teeth like that? All that aside, it looks pre-historic. The Montauk monster to me looks like it might have been a hippo. Great hub by the way! I love this stuff.
the fist creature can be bought on ebay just type : Triops. I have a couple in an aquarium and they're pretty neat to look at.
