My First Impression with Ubuntu
My first impression with ubuntu was ok-ok. I had just tried KDE 4.0 on open suse and was amazed by its looks. And ubuntu having Gnome was something good but not the eye candy. But i had decided to give a try so continued with it. Decided to go for installing it on Hard Drive. Done it without any hitch. So it was time to test it. And surprizingly it didn't boot. I tried to failsafe and found that it wasn't detecting the partition table. I was bored tried installation thrice and decided to quit of it. But by chance i was having a spare hdd so decided to try it out.
And what a surprise It worked Ubuntu was up and running in half n hour. Orange Colour Screen filled my Desktop. First few things i noticed were, a) A Neat Menu style: All required soft wares were there but not as KDEs rushing icons, it was smooth and few. b) Desktop was configured to minimal settings due to proprietary drivers issue.(I solved it on next reboot, actually it prompted me to install it.) c) It configured my DSL connection in seconds without asking me. I was surprised as gone through clashes with XP for it.
there are many other things to share about ubuntu but will do it in next few days.
Ubuntu 8.10 Interpid Ibex
Hi i finally decided to give a try to 8.10. I was more looking for the gnome 3.24.
So i downloaded the 8.10 ulternet CD. And tried to update it using the upgrade option on the cd.It failed it asked me to go to Internet which i couldn't do. So i decided to use package manager--and what a surprise my system got upgraded smoothly to 8.10. It was fantastic gnome 3.24 is fascinating. now i decided to give a try to compiz( i was knowing its famous CUBE Effect). But eventually the system got hanged. Unfortunately i wasn't knowing ctrl+alt+backspace to restart the X.So restarted the pc. and got it back to working. Thank God.........When i tried to figure out the problem on net and got that newer nvidia drivers dont work with old cards:(.
I cant live without the nvidia drivers. and there are still lots of bugs in Ibex.
So after long thought process i decided to go back to Hardy back....It wasnt easy to go back.....but in next update.
Ubuntu 9.04
When ubuntu 9.04 Alpha came, i decided to give a try to it. I faced many problems as it was alpha development version. But i decided to stick with it. And today i am proud user of Ubuntu 9.04 Beta Amd 64.
Ubuntu 9.04 is the fastest booting ubuntu ever. You can see the booting process in following vidio.

I use Ubuntu now, too. Used to use Mandriva.
Its a great OS, and easy to use. Windows users don't know what they're not getting in their Microsoft products.

P.S.
I might suggest more media (like a video or two?) and perhaps some revision as time allows. I realize english probably isn't your first language, and you're doing a wonderful job getting your ideas across as it stands!
