The Ultimate Gaming Computer

Well, I've been an avid gamer for a long time. And an avid computer builder. While there are many great builds on the internet for great gaming PC's, this article is different. This is an article for those with a massive budget, or who are just curious about what is in the truly supreme gaming machine. Price was of no concern when I picked the items for this machine. Without a shadow of a doubt, this machine is the most powerful gaming machine commercially available as of Febuary 1st, 2008. Not even the best PC's on Alienware.com (the premier manufacturer of gaming PC's) can match this MONSTER!!

ASUS Striker II Formula LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX ($349.99)

Well, I had a tough choice to make for the motherboard. Either I got the motherboard with DDR3 RAM capabilities (the FASTEST ram on the market today), or the motherboard that could handle 3-way SLI Video Cards. I chose the one that could handle the 3 video cards, since there is still superb DDR2 RAM on the market, but you can't replace not having a 3rd video card. That 3rd video card will allow you to maximize settings in every game out today without a single frame delayed.

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 Yorkfield 3.0GHz ($1,099.99)

The #1 Quad-Core processor from Intel out on the market today. This monster can be overclocked big time, and outscores any other processor to come in it's path in just about every field, from gaming to video editing to multi-tasking.

(3x) EVGA 768-P2-N885-AR GeForce 8800Ultra($689.99 each)

3-way SLI Video card using GeForce 8800Ultra cards....wow. While some 1GB video cards DO exist, you can't do 3-way SLI with them, so 3x 786 MB > 2x 1GB.

(2x) G.Skill DDR2-1066 4GB (2x 2GB) ($600 each estimated)

These babies were *JUST* released a few days ago so nobody has them on their website yet. Price estimations are around $600 each.

With a total of 8 GB of powerful DDR2-1066 memory and a reliable company like G.Skill, your RAM will never be overtasked.

Thermaltake SwordM VD500LBNA($599.99)

When buying any Gaming PC, the case is extremely important. This monster is a full tower case, so it's not small by any stretch, but it comes with liquid cooling and more fans than I can count, both of which are extremely important. With some fun LED lights as well, it'll be one big monster to show off to friends.

Hanns·G HG-281DPB Black 28" 3ms($549.99)

This was a difficult choice. At first I was drawn to the 46" monitors, but many of those got terrible reviews from friends of mine. After using one I could see why. They're impossible to manuever, don't fit on desks, and you have to sit far back to see the whole screen. Also, refresh times are usually bad on such screens. I'll wait till they improve technology on them before going bigger than 28". With a 3ms refresh rate, it'll never fall behind what you're doing.

ASUS Xonar D2X ($204.99)

This is a great sound card for maximum surround sound performance on your PC in any game you play.

Logitech Z-5500 505 Watts($267.99)

Nothing that I can find would be better than this for gaming. It's wireless, superbly reviewed, and from a reputable brand. Also, I've heard the sound quality, and it's amazing.

ABS Tagan BZ Series BZ1100($349.99)

Well, on such a mighty gaming PC, you really do need all the wattage you can get!! At 1100W, this thing will power your PC no sweat, even with all 3 video cards running at maximum throttle

Ridata SSDR32G-SAT25-2 2.5" 32GB SATA($699.99)

Technically, this isn't a Hard Disk Drive, but a Solid State Drive. This new and upcoming technology looks promising for gaming purposes and installing Windows onto. While bigger SSD's like 64GB do exist, they have been given a bad reputation for reliability. Perhaps when this technology gets more widespread, that problem will cease. Gaming has never been faster than on one of these monsters.

Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST31000340NS 1TB($329.99)

Don't worry, we still have a regular massive hard drive :) For those things that DON'T need incredible speed (basically anything but your Windows operating system and your truly graphics-intense games), this hard drive will do excellent. And with 1TB of storage (1000GB), even the largest gaming collection will fit.

2x SONY 4X Blu-ray DVD Burner($599.99 each)

This great player will play CD/DVD/Blu-Ray. And with two of them, you can burn straight from one Blu-Ray disk to the other.

RAZER Tarantula Black USB Standard Ultimate Gaming Keyboard ($79.99)

All I have to say about this keyboard is WOW. If one thing above all others turned me onto this board, it's the fact that it has it's own onboard memory. Yea, in a keyboard. It has 10 programmable hotkeys for macros, which is perfect for gaming, especially MMORPG's. And it will allow you to press as many keys down at the same time as you want without any freezing or slowdown occuring.

Logitech MX518($39.99)

Eh?? A $40 mouse for the ultimate gaming rig? Why pick this when there are $300 gaming mice for sale? Well, honestly, I've used countless mice in my gaming years. This mouse is the one I love. It feels great, works great, and does everything I could possibly need in a gaming mouse. Buy it, trust me, no matter what your gaming machine.

Windows XP 64-Bit Professional Edition ($139.99)

WIndows Vista Ultimate was considered, but ultimately dropped. With it's incomplete security and gaming incompatibility, especially with older games, Vista is not ready to be the OS to use right now. In around 6 months, it may become the OS to use for gaming, but not right now.
