Who is Pete Maravich and Why Should I Care?
64Who is "Pistol Pete" Maravich?
Ah, "The Pistol".....
Who can forget the floppy socks, the behind the back passes, between the legs dribbling, and the wondrous assortment of shots that made him a basketball legend.
In his three-year career at LSU (1968-70) he emerged as college basketball's all-time leading scorer with 3,667 points and an INCREDIBLE 44.2 points per game average! This is an NCAA record that will NEVER be touched - NEVER.....
In his ten-year NBA career he amassed nearly 16,000 points and a 24.2 points per game average playing with the Atlanta Hawks, the New Orleans and Utah Jazz, before finishing his career with a short stint with the Boston Celtics. He became the youngest professional inductee into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Tragedy struck on January 5, 1988 - as Pete died of a sudden heart attack, he was only 40. He died doing what he dedicated his life to - playing basketball....
If I leave here tomorrow, will you still remember me.....
Why Should I Care?
If you are a basketball fan or player, I assume you enjoy watching and/or learning from the best. There will never be another "Pistol Pete."
Now, if you do not like sports - especially basketball, you might not care who "Pistol Pete" Maravich is, and that is OK. I am passionate about some things, and you may be passionate about others. Even if you are not a basketball fan, do you know anyone who plays the game? Kids, nephews, nieces, cousins - or maybe even yourself?
Here's the deal. As Pete stated in an interview one time "you don't get here by just wishing". Pete's entire life was devoted to the game of basketball - he mastered the game through system developed by his father and college coach Press Maravich. It was called "Homework Basketball".
Check out the clip above of Pete sharing some of his drills with the great Red Auerbach in the late 70's.

Spreading The Legacy....
Pistol Pete Maravich mastered the game of basketball. It was his life, his passion. I am a huge Pete Maravich fan, collector, and self described "Homework Basketball" junkie, and have a passion for keeping the Pete Maravich Legacy alive forever. Pete's drills helped me in my playing days - and they can help you or someone you know improve their game.
