Are you trying to eliminate bread, sugar, and other high-carb foods from your diet? If so, you're joining millions of Americans pursuing weight loss by following a high protein diet. Atkins is just one of the many low carb diets that have become popular in recent years, and the premise is that your body will burn fat more efficiently when there are limited carbohydrates available. As you start cutting back on carbs in an effort to lose weight and stick with your high protein diet, there are now a number of diet pills available to aid with the process.

Ultra Carb Intercept is one of the leading ‘carb blockers' on the market that helps to reduce total carb intake by neutralizing starch from foods. This means it prevents your body from absorbing starch and carbs, which often convert to fat if they are not used up immediately. The supplements also contain sugar blocking ingredients so that you don't have to worry about counting sugar and carb grams at each meal. But what are the drawbacks of these pills, and are they even safe and effective for low carb dieters?

The Promises of Ultra Carb Intercept

Ultra carb intercept diet pills are promoted as carbohydrate inhibitors, and claim to prevent the conversion of carbs into glucose so your body never absorbs them at all. This means the amount of carbs ingested are less likely to be stored as fat, and the pills aim to intercept this entire conversion to help you lose or manage your weight.

Natrol, the company that makes Ultra Carb Intercept, suggests the following key benefits of the pills on their website:

• Intercepts digestive enzymes Alpha Amylase and Alpha Glucosidase

• Prevents sugars from being metabolized and turned into fat

• Prevents carb conversions into glucose, which is often stored as fat

The key ingredients in Ultra Carb intercept are:

• Proprietary Amylase Inhibitor Blend (contains white kidney bean extract, wheat extract, mung bean extract)

• Insosine (the sugar-blocking ingredient)

• Gymnema Extract

Insosine is the unique ingredient in these pills, as the other two extracts can be found in many similar carb blocking pills and supplements on the market. Insosine blocks sugar absorption, which can make it easier for dieters to reduce daily sugar intake without cutting back on their favorite foods.

Do Ultra Carb Intercept Pills Actually Work?

There is very little evidence available to suggest the ingredients in the proprietary can actually reduce carb absorption. While some researchers have confirmed the positive effects of white kidney bean extract on carb intake, these are unconfirmed studies and there is no verifiable link to extensive weight loss. The FDA reports a number of side effects linked to pills and supplements that contain white kidney bean extract that include diarrhea, poor digestion, constipation, and stomach cramps. The ingredient is essentially a starch blocker, but does present a number of side effects. Insosine has not been researched in enough detail to support the claims made by Natrol, and is still undergoing review.
