An unconventional way of becoming an Internet marketer.

Anybody can become a good Internet marketer it's just a matter of acquiring the right skills. It may take some people a year; other people may only take 30 minutes to learn the fundamentals. One thing that I have noticed when I observe forum discussions is, a lot of people are giving away A LOT of good information. This gets lost if one chose to listen to people that may not have learnt a lot yet and doubt how things should be done. I don't think there is a right or a wrong way, but I know for a fact that it doesn't matter how fancy your website is, or how many people are following you on twitter and delicious or whatever social book marking site you may be on. If you can't drive traffic, you won't earn the dollars it's only a numbers game after all. If you have got a very good landing page you should be able to convert 1 in every 50 visit to a sale. If you don't you're doing something wrong.

There will always be people to tell you that what you want to achieve can't be done, because they failed to do it them selves. Remember in high school when you learnt calculus, it's that class all over again. There were always a few people going on about how impossible this was and what you would ever use this knowledge for in the first place etc. Amongst those people quietly sat the high achievers and did their work. They asked questions listened to the answers and if they didn't understand, they asked more questions and they tried to solve the problem and eventually they got it right. It was just a matter of trial and error!

The people that made it acquired the skills needed. It is the same with Internet marketing, you need to acquire the skills to separate facts from fluff. I was in a forum ones and a young VERY talented marketer he had just turned 21 on that day, IM'd me and asked "how come these people don't take my advice" can't they see that I'm trying to help them out. I said to him, rather then asking me why they're not listening just watch them and see what mistakes they are making and learn from that. This is a young man that made $30K his first year as an affiliate marketer when he was 19 years old. He is now 21 and earns $60K a year on affiliate marketing, he is not by far a web guru but he is making a good living for a college student. As a matter of fact he taught me everything worth knowing about drop shipping. He asked me, do you just watch people's comments in forums I told him yes pretty much. If someone asks for help, I give them a few pointers put my URL to my website in the comment box and that are pretty much it.

When I just had a rough idea how things worked, I didn't know how to master Google ad words. I thought that the top ranked people would naturally be the ones that bid on the highest ranked words (which is not always the case if you know how to analyze data). Basically if it took someone 6 month to start earning money online, they will never believe that it only took you 30 minutes to make your first $80.00 sale. Truth is if they believe you they will have to admit that someone else was better then them.

Personally I learn enough to separate fact from fluff and then I read all the articles that I could about online marketing on different article sites. I noticed one author he's name kept on popping up everywhere, I had a look at his website and it said to drop him an email to say hello, so I did. I sent him an email and I asked if he could teach me about online marketing, I told him what I knew and asked him what more I needed to know and how much he wanted me to pay him for mentoring me in case he had the time to do this. He sent me an email back after a week and told me that he would mentor me for free, if I promised him to return the favour to someone one day and not to waste time on people that don't want to listen. He has written about 10 000 articles online, and I haven't had time to read all of them, but I've learnt a lot from the ones I've read.

This is why I believe that anyone can learn how to build an Internet business, but if you want to become really good and if you want to make a decent income you need a mentor. If you try to make it on your own, with no marketing skills you'll may only be making a part time income after a year if even that, I certainly think that one can make it on their own it will just take longer. I usually spy my way to sales, I have a spreadsheet where I monitor the paid advertising on the Google searches in my niche market. I make a log of the advertisers and for how long they are advertising, if they are there for let's say 2 weeks, what ever they are doing is working. If it wouldn't work they would've pulled their advertising.

Like I mentioned earlier it is trial and error, but you just have to make sure that it is someone else’s error. You don't want to end up pulling advertising because it's costing you money, let someone else make the mistakes and learn from that. Like the people in the forums that argue that people’s suggestions aren't working they may or may not work but get the skills to learn how to see if it would or not.

Great post. I have read and read myself. Trial and error was without a doubt my mentor over the years.

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the comment Michael, yes wouldn't it be nice to get everything right the first time. This goes for pretty much everything I think all though never really bothered too much with physics. I was happy to get good enough grades to keep my parents happy!
