 Underarm Sweating

The armpits are a highly visible sweat point for those who suffer from hyperhydrosis. More than 90% of people will suffer from un wanted armpit sweat during their life. As one of the bodies primary areas of sweat gland concentration, the underarms can produce great volumes of moisture when exposed to stress, nervousness or high levels of physical activity. Excess sweating from the underarms is termed axillery hyperhydrosis.

Most people find that underarm sweating can be prevented by applying a daily anti-perspirant deodorant to the underarm area. Even just the general daily activities of life can cause perspiration. While the sweating itself can be visually embarassing, its most often the smell of body odour that can be the biggest factor for preventing underarm sweating. Many deodorants thus contain a scent, mask or odour neutral smell, to cover any occourance of body odour.

For most people, underarm sweating starts in the teen years, usually coninciding with the onset of puberty. Due to the fact that girls will tend to start puberty earlier than boys, its can become more of a social issues for girls. Boys may tend to pick up on excess female sweat, or notice the odour, which can make life pretty uncomfortable for girls who are growing up.

Males however, during puberty, will tend to sweat heavier than females. The rampant testosterone hormones are responsible for alot of male physical drive, and there is no greater time for this than the teenage years. With all this physical activity going on, its then no suprise that boys will tend to sweat very heavily in the armpits during these years. Personal hygene becomes crucial at this time, and severe underarm sweating can often be an early indicator of other hyperhydrosis issues to come.

Some easy ways to help control underarm sweating and keep armpits in check include choosing clothing that provides ample circulation to the area. Some modern fabrics and clothes also wick away moisture from the skin surface. High performance wools like 'merino' and synthetics like polyprop or thermal fabric, also provide this function.

Another idea that works, is to wear clothing that wont absorb sweat and turn it into odour, as the bacteria and sulphates break down. Singelts, loose t-shirts and nylon loose shirts are all a good choice. When sweat contacts cotton fabrics or other highly absorbent fabrics, the odour develops quickly and is hard to cover. In addition, there is often visible signs of sweat, including rings, patches or blots of moisture that can be easily detected.
