People are turning to yoga as a substitute for Physical exercise or combining Yoga with Physical exercises as a mechanism of loosing weight and meditation. Some people use Yoga as a technique for spirituality, positive thinking and diet. As a matter of fact yoga is recommended by most doctors, gym instructors to be added as a weekly regime of keeping the body and mind fit.
But there is a lot more to yoga- Yoga originates from India, decades back, between 1000-5000 BC. The goal was then to initiate spiritual growth and bring discipline in the physical and mental aspects of life. Yoga also helps in increasing ones flexibility, stamina and strength.
Yoga was founded during the Indus Valley Civilization. Yoga was taught to be a union of oneself with Brahman which in Hinduism is God. At that time God was supposed to be a spiritual entity which existed with Reality, which meant that every thing that existed was God. There have been differences with this theory between different religions although Yoga does share some of the aspects of Buddhism and Jainism. Early Buddhism believed in various meditation techniques.
One of the primary reasons Yoga came into existence was to make the human being understand that he is God, which is why Yoga taught the union of a human Being with God.
Yoga can be described as a practice of psychosomatic exercise – which is basically a study of depressive and hypertension changes in Humans. To fully practice yoga one must experience the “Kundalini “effect in meditation. Kundalini effect could mean panic, fear or anxiety. This means that in the human body the different places where the biophysical energy resides, are together involved in the process. This process can be extremely dangerous and cause problems within the body if not done right. Yoga has been practiced for decades together and constantly evolved.
Yoga can be classified as
Vedic Yoga: This is probably the oldest form of Yoga known. This form of Yoga is also called Archaic Yoga. The principle of Vedic Yoga is to reunite what is visible along with the invisible spiritual entity along with sacrifice. This form of yoga needs long rituals which means that the highlest level of concentration is needed. This brings out the inner focus which is the key factor of all Yoga.
PreClassical Yoga: The preclassical Yoga era defines the Upanishads which are Hindu Sculptures. This form of yoga addressed Moksh, Devotion, getting rid of ones ego and a keen Mind.
Classical Yoga: Classical yoga defines yoga as approachable. It talks of two things,
Prakiti, which means matter and purusha which means the soul, and the fact that the soul should be free from any materialistic form and should be pure.
Post Classical Yoga: Post Classical yoga started concentrating on Yoga for betterment of the body. The newer generation combined meditation along with deep breathing exercises and proclaimed that this would help keep the body young and help people live longer. This paved the way of what today is the most famous kind of yoga- Hatha Yoga.
Modern Yoga: Swami Vivekananda in 1983 introduced the concept of Yoga to Americans in Chicago. People loved the concept of yoga and this gave rise to a number of yoga schools all over the globe.
Hatha Yoga is today used by most Americans, television shows
demonstrating this technique are aired all over television and the internet,
and books have been written defining this technique of yoga which have sold
millions and millions of copies and have become best sellers. Yoga is rapidly
growing in today’s world with over 30 million people worldwide practicing it on
a regular basis. There have been articles published and claims on the various
