Understanding the Benefits of Working From Home
60Writing Articles for Money
I use a wide variety of sites to make money. For all of the sites that I belong to and all of the articles I write I make about 10 to 15 cents an article (on average) for each month. This isn't fantastic pay and come the end of the year I will have made $1.20 to $1.80 for each article (on average) that I have written.
Some say this isn't enough. However, I feel other wise. There are a lot of reasons I feel the way I do and I thought I would share them with you so you had an idea about whether or not writing articles for 10 to 15 cents a month was worth it for you. Each of us must decide on our own.
Reasons it is Worth It (for me).
There are a lot of reasons I think that the money I am making online is worth it for me. This probably isn't all of them and as time goes on the list grows and changes.
1) I love what I do. I have worked jobs out there in the real world and hated doing them. Often I had to pretent to be someone I wasn't. I hated what I was doing and couldn't wait to be done for the day. Writing is a passion I have. I love writing and sharing the knowledge that I have. The articles I write online offer me the perfect place to enjoy doing what I do.
2) With a 19 month old son I have the choice to stay home and take care of him or to let someone else take care of him. Where we live it is really expensive to pay for childcare. In fact my husband works with a guy whose wife recently quit her job because they realized they were paying $50 more a month then her income. Staying home really is the best option.
3) My income grows a little bit every day. I write a new article and grow the income that is passive more. You see, I make money on the articles that are written each and every month. I can write more articles or take a vacation. One continues to build up my passive income, the other still lets the money come in.
4) Sometimes it is more then that. Sometimes I make more then 10-15 cents an article. It is true, sometimes I don't. But when I do, it works out nicely.
A Break Down of Programs
I write for a lot of different programs. The one people ask the most about is Helium.
Helium I make about 10-15 cents an article (on average, some will make as much as a dollar and others a penny or nothing at all). People ask, how is it worth it? Helium is set up to be super easy. Even on days when you don't know what to write you can find something to write about. The articles I write there are ones that I know everything I need to write the article. It takes me fifteen to twenty minutes to write the article. Additionally, if the site is around a long time, I could make a lot of money from some of my articles.
Associated Content pays upfront for some articles. I have made between three and seven dollars and twenty cents for some of my articles. Others are posted there for free and only make passive income of a few cents. Passively I make a little less then 10 cents a month. If I average all the money I have recieved and the articles that I have written then I am at about $2.80 an article. This still isn't great. However, I make a passive income for as long as they are around. It should be good.
I do a little better with Google Adsense based programs such as Hubpages, SpeakAboutIt.com, and howtodothings.com. But I am still not getting rich. However, it is growing each month.
Exact Dollars and Cents
Each month I put between 120-180 hours of work in. I don't go over board, but it really is full time. So, how much do I make?
August-a few pennies. August is when I started trying to figure it all out.
September-a few dollars.
November-$311.54
December $211.86 (I took a lot of time off in December).
January $505.56
February-The totals aren't in yet, we still have three days, however it should be aroung $550-600.
Hourly, it stinks. It isn't worth it. But because of the other reasons it is worth it. Plus over time, the hourly thing will come to mean less as I make more and more money.

Why Not Freelance?
It has been asked of me before, "Why not freelance?" After all if I am putting time into writing, then maybe I could make a go of it as a freelance writer. There are several reasons why I choose to do what I do verses freelancing.
1) Job Applications-In today's electronic age their are several sites where freelancers go to work. There are sites like elance and others that connect the freelancer with the employer. This is a great option for many, but I don't like the idea of applying for jobs and spending time job hunting. This way, all my time goes ot making money. There is no application process, no searching for a job I am qualified for, and no rejection.
2) I write what I want-when I want to write it and nothing more or less. I can choose when I write on a topic or if I write on a topic. It isn't dependable on what someone else wants me to write on.
3) If I were to choose to write what I want and then find a publisher it would require taking time to write cover letters, mail out the letter and the article, pay for printing it and for stamps to get it their and back. I would have to deal with at least a few rejections before getting things accepted and all of that.
The average freelancer makes $6,000 a year. I can do that!
Is It Worth It?
This is something you have to decide for yourself. I have already sat down and looked at my situations, desires, and goals. Our goal is actually a huge one. We hope that I can replace my husbands income (about $4,000 a month) so he can quit his job and join me. This is done with Blogs, Writing Articles, and PTC. We shall see how it goes. I will keep this article updated for those who are wondering how it goes. Or you can visit Fill Your Wallet where I update how we are doing regularly.

Great info. I also have a toddler and don't blame you for making this work vs. the alternative. Keep it up!
