Understanding the use of natural light with photography: a guide
77You know it has been said that you should never photograph in the mid-day sun, I say why not? Especially if you need a lot of bright light and are not frightened off by small shadows or even large ones this may just be the time of day which suits you best, especially if you're wanting distance shots or are out on the ocean etc.
There is no doubt that many wonderful images are created using early morning or late evening light but this does not say that different circumstances may suit you more.
The key is the use of the natural lighting which is available when you want your shot.
Change the setting or use the flash, not always good options and the flash is only useful for a short distance and even a very large flash and an expensive one has its limitations.
What you want is the best possible photo which means using the light to its best advantage and making sure you shoot your image correctly.
I have put together a collection of images which draw on natural lighting effects to create good pictures and especially good photographs. These photos have been chosen at random from the web to illustrate the points I am making.
Have fun with your camera and improve your skills for better results be you heading for a photographic career or simply just want good shots for your family.
If you want to learn more about photography I have selected a list of posts for you which you'll find if you go to http://www.photographytips.com.au/how-to-take-good-photos/2/ and you can then take your time at working through them, even returning from time to time to learn a little more and then go out and practice.

That's the way to do it fortunerep. The more you snap the better you'll get, plus following my blogs and hubs, of course.
Wonderfully beautiful photographs! And they so show the various uses of light to make photos more compelling. Thanks for the fine Hub. I enjoyed it very much!
What a pleasure it always is to see you James.
You're ahead of me, I'm slowly catch up. Trust me.
Photography is definitely an art form and learning a bit more about it as well as practicing makes a big difference. Hooray for the newer digital cameras! One can snap, snap and snap photos again and again and just delete those that do not turn out as one would hope.
What you say is so very true, Peggy, but you'll continue to improve and then you will not have to take so many.
I'm glad you get so much pleasure from photography
I'm a big fan of natural lighting, and not just with photography. When I was shooting films for class, I rarely used a lighting kit, opting for a more natural look. I really enjoyed reading this.
I'm really pleased to hear that MistHaven It's amazing what you can do with natural lighting
Beautiful Photography. Your article is very informative. Great work!
I'm glad you found it informative, MedTrakker, the photography came from the web although I chose it appropriately, the explanations, of course, came from me.
It's lovely to see you. Thank you so much.
