Most apartment buildings have the traditional vertical rectangular windows. There is nothing wrong with them but some people who own homes or live in very old buildings have other window designs. These are usually bay windows or arched windows. Arched windows actually evolved from arched doors and doors then this artitectural design started to be part of windows. The are much more popular in Asia and Europe than there are in the United States. The main reason is expense and most property developers don't want to spend too much money on such design. And also high ceilings are absolutely necessary because an arched window is much higher than regular windows. Bay windows on the other hand protrude from the property. They usually have three sides one in the center and two more windows to the left and the right of the base of the windows. If you like these window designs then there really isn't much you can do about. You can move into an apartment that has them or you can buy a home that has them too. If you are thinking about installing them then it will cost you loads of money because the professional work require to install them will cost a lot. If the house is your own maybe you can explore this option because it would make your home more valuable. Arched windows however are a much more complicated matter because if you don't have high ceilings then it would be impossible to install then AND have them look good. Arched windows are ideal for high ceilings and without a high ceiling any attempt would be futile.

If you have bay windows and would like to make them look very pretty then it's just a matter of what kind of bay window curtains that you like. It is so simple now to install because a bay window curtain rod is available and it is bendable so you can install the curtain rod and bay window curtain yourself. Having these kinds of beautiful windows also means you should have use a beautiful curtain fabric on them. You can make your bay windows look great or you can make them look awful by using a cheap fabric. My point here is to take your time and to install a nice quality fabric. If you do so you will make your place look immaculate. You probably already know this but bay window curtains were designed to bring in extra light to the the bay room so using a fabric and curtain design that will enhance this the the proper way of doing things. You can use lighter fabrics for the hot summer months and when winter arrives you can use a thick fabric to help keep some of that cold from coming inside your home.

Arched windows need to be treated a little bit differently if you have an arched window on top and a rectangular window below that. You can actually use two different colors using the same fabric or simply use the same fabric. You main concern should be the curtain rod because many of them don't look good at all. One option is an arched rod that is flexible but what I noticed about much of these easy to install ones is that they only support lightweight fabrics such as lace. If you are using a heavier fabric then you need to find something else that will be able to support the weight.

If you had either of these window styles years ago you would actually need a lot of money for the material and curtain rods. This is is no longer true because ready made arched curtain rods and bay window curtains rods are available in many department stores that sell curtain accessories. Make sure you take your time and ask the salesperson all the questions you have. Mention the type of window you have including dimensions and also the type of fabric you will use.

Remodeling a room or even your entire house with unique windows could cost a pretty penny. This isn't something that someone should do unless such remodeling is part of the bigger remodeling plan. Arched windows are very attractive but they are not suitable any kind of home. Bay Windows on the other hand could be great in many rooms in a house wither a living room and even family.
