Don't do it, I am Begging you

For my first time I just saw the movie Slap Shot, and it was way better than I thought it would be, in fact it was hysterical! The characters are more memorable than any sports movie I have ever seen.

I wasn’t born until like 15 years after the movie, that’s the main reason I never saw it but am glad I did. And to be totally honest I have always considered Paul Newman before my time. I saw Paul Newman as many my age did, he was the salad dressing guy!

But he is fantastic in Slap Shot as the aging player with the smart mouth! Paul Newman was a great actor but more impressive he could ice skate and looked like an athlete. And Newman had comedic presence that I had no idea, I almost died when he disparaged  another players wife to get under his skin, and slowly Paul Newman no longer seemed like my grandpa! He was gritty and tough! Who could we even see play Reggie Dunlop now a days? Paul Newman was terrific; he looked like someone the whole team would look up too! And don’t forget the Hanson Brothers, the players thought to be mentally handicapped at first, they were like something out of a Farrelly Brothers movie. There was a lot to love about this movie!

Now here is the main reason why you should see this classic movie (not just the Hanson brothers, whom are worth the price of admission by themselves), it is being remade in 2012 by Universal!

Get your breath back, rinse out your mouth and get the chunks off your shirt loyalists because they aren’t trying to make Slap Shot 2, with Stephen Baldwin and Gary Busey, or Slap Shot 3 with Leslie Nielsen they are attacking the classic! Wasn’t it enough that we blasphemized Slap Shot with lousy sequels, now must we steal the soul of the original?

They are trying to kill Slap Shot, which is already a great movie, by tarnishing it like Bad News Bears with Billy Bob! Nowadays you can be edgy but to replicate racial and sexist humor  is different now, today you have to be politically correct as well! You can’t remake them the same way! Besides who would play the Hanson Brothers now? This has the Longest Yard remake all over again, we liked the first one, why do we need a new one? These remakes never deliver.

I strongly urge you to rent or check out this classic before Universal cuts it from the inside out! And if anybody is listening please don’t do it, just make Slap Shot 4, I can live with another bad sequel but don’t take the only Slap Shot that was good from us now, not that I just found it!
