University of Phoenix Online? What a Joke!

University of Phoenix Online is a scam for college students and I know this for a fact because I wasn't properly trained in their Bachelors of Science in Information Technology program! Tell me, how many graduates from this I.T. program, with zero real-world work experience, landed a job in Information Technology? Well let me be the first graduate from the Bachelors of Science in Information Technology program who graduated with honors and a 3.9 G.P.A. to tell you that nobody did. And don't blame it on the economy either because I applied for a job as a computer systems administrator I and II for the University of Phoenix's parent company Apollo Group and my resume got rejected. I don't know why I'm not getting a call back or at least an appointment for an interview because computer systems administrators fall under Information Technology so, what seems to be the problem Apollo Group? I graduated with a 3.9 G.P.A. from your company! Do you, Apollo Group, send your I.T. staff to the University of Phoenix Online to further their career in the computer science field?

Computer science is amazing! Look at how far the Internet has come since 1995! We can do so many things now on the Internet like online bill payments, watch our favorite television episodes, join a social online community like Facebook, and a whole lot more. Computer science is amazing and I should capitalize "AMAZING!" The speed at which we can connect to the Internet is amazing, computer programming is amazing, database design is amazing, etc., etc., etc. The I.T. program at the University of Phoenix Online is NOT-AMAZING! It's a joke! The enrollment counselors at the University of Phoenix Online, once they get your foot in the door and they get you to finish your first class, that's the last time you'll hear from them. My enrollment counselor either got fired or quit because he didn't want to scam students anymore.

I smell trouble! An online university in Oregon that operated since the 80's as a diploma mill was recently closed down because they lost their accreditation. They were handing out bachelors degrees to students without any brains! It doesn't take much to learn basic English and math but when it comes to the freshman college level, you better know how to write a 5-page MLA or APA paper. I'm serious too! English at the college level is as easy as logging into your Facebook or Twitter account and every college freshman should know how to spell correctly, how to use capitalization properly, punctuation, etc., as well as the difference between two words for example, when to use "your" instead of "you're." Well, "your" enrollment at the University of Phoenix Online won't be your ticket to career success when "you are" or "you're" out there job hunting. I just proved it, I wasn't hired or scheduled for an interview as a computer systems administrator I and II for Apollo Group, University of Phoenix Online's parent company! And let me tell you that the many scam artists' that are enrollment counselors at the University of Phoenix Online enroll anyone willing to believe that they can earn their bachelors degree and a better paying job.  That's the hook line and there are many other hook lines as well.  So, like the majority of online students enrolled at the University of Phoenix Online, almost 50% of the online student body could not spell correctly, punctuate correctly, or do anything English-related correctly. And I have all my old online classrooms and learning forums to prove it, believe me, I know about the 2 posts over the 4 different days of the week rule if you want a good participation grade.

Today May 8, 2009, on Yahoo! News, Obama announced that the unemployment rate has gone up, about 600,000 people lost their jobs over the past two months, and he's creating a plan for these recently-unemployed people to return to college and still keep their unemployment benefits. He has increased the amount of the Pell Grant so Americans from all walks of life can get properly trained so that America's future work force will be ready when the economy has fallen back into place! And the University of Phoenix Online will be right there, consuming all that Pell Grant money that their students don't have to pay back. This online university, strangely enough, gets so much student financial aid monies every year and it's scary because as a graduate from this university, they took all my money and I can't get any I.T. job, not even an I.T. internship.  Apollo Group won't interview me or hire me, I wonder why?

After 15 employment rejection letters from companies in Hawaii, I am fed up at the University of Phoenix Online for scamming me into wasting a huge load of money, yeah I could've went to Harvard and paid the same, and also a huge amount of time, think 2 years! I only know the little knowledge of computer science and nothing more than that but the little knowledge I've gained I could've learned from self-study books at my local library.  I transferred in as a junior and that's why I only spent 2 years in their bachelors of science in I.T. program. I don't know how to program in C++, I don't know how to configure and secure a web (http) server, nor do I even know about a web server, what it is or what it can do while I was enrolled at the University of Phoenix. I learned about the web server from my current school I am attending right now, Heald College Honolulu, and they are a million times better. I also learned about a media server, ftp server, domain server, etc., etc. You won't learn anything at the University of Phoenix Online! You'll graduate and enter the world with a worthless degree while Apollo Groups' board of directors laugh at you during your job interviews because they know that you wasn't properly trained at their company, their online college, their online university, the University of Phoenix Online!

I have one thing to say about the University of Phoenix Online Bachelor's of Science in Information Technology and that is, it doesn't do the job. You only learn little or nothing at all and no real-world job skill training like how it says on their web site. The classes are very easy, if you're good a typing papers, you can graduate with a 4.0 from the University of Phoenix Online B.S.I.T. program. We typed papers for hands-on training instead of hooking up a web server to the Internet and testing our web pages that we designed on our servers. What a joke! And that's why no companies in Hawaii will hire me because I only have a beginner's knowledge of computer science. I'm not an expert programmer, web programmer, database engineer, and the best I save for last, computer systems administrator I or II. That's why Apollo Group didn't or doesn't want to hire me. Apollo Group owns and operates the University of Phoenix Online so come on Apollo, hire your Zeus I.T. God, hire me! But you can't because you didn't train me properly in the foundations and principles of Information Technology/Computer Science.  You'll need at least 3 solid years of hands-on training to be a master at anything in this field and let me tell you that the I.T. program here won't teach you anything!

Where does that leave me? Well I do want all my money and time wasted back from this fraudulent university! I have to start all over again, I need to go to college again for another 4 years and get a real bachelors degree. I hate having to start all over again but when I am scammed by one of the biggest destinies in life, to go to college and earn a college degree, that is something you cannot explain. What a joke!

I need all the help I can muster to shut down this diploma mill! I'm serious because Obama is allowing recently unemployed people to go back to college and this university will be right there saying, "Please enroll in our great and confident bachelors degree programs and get a better paying job. Reach for your college goals and become a phoenix." Are you ready for the convenience of online college learning that allows you to keep a full-time job, work at your own pace, or are you ready to go back to college as a stay-at-home mom or dad and learn nothing the whole time? You'd better be good with English and able to type papers because that's how they do it at the University of Phoenix Online! Papers, papers, papers, and no real-world hands on training.

How can someone use the education system to scam people who want to better their lives? Computer scientists' earn anywhere between $50,000 to $300,000 dollars a year. Yes, we can make more than doctors and if you're a God at C++ computer programming working on a custom project, you could earn $500,000 dollars in less than a year, depending on how quickly you finish the clients project. Today, I am not making one cent, there are tons of computer science jobs in my area paying over $100,000 dollars, I have a computer science degree, and I'm unemployed. University of Phoenix Online? Don't enroll here! You won't be able to build and test any computer hardware or software!  You won't be able to do anything in the computer science field with a University of Phoenix Online B.S.I.T. degree!  What a joke!

There are over 100 Information Technology jobs in Honolulu, Hawaii right now.  Google I.T. jobs in Honolulu and you'll find tons of jobs.  Where does it say on the news that there aren't any Information Technology jobs in Honolulu, Hawaii?  Do you watch the news for Honolulu, Hawaii?  There are tons of telecommute freelance Information Technology opportunities as well but I wasn't properly trained at the University of Phoenix Online.  So get your facts straightened out first before you flip your television station and begin watching your local news. You should watch employment news for Honolulu, Hawaii and get over it!

Interesting information for you, I suggest you click here:

Also, watch this video too:

Finally, when you're done reading and watching about attorney Nancy Krop, you can get over it!

Chickasaw- I think you should stop while you are ahead- well you aren't even really ahead yet. You tout about the fact that you "attended" U of Phoenix, but obviously you struggle with basic grammar and English so I would hardly think Phoenix could have helped in your case. I agree University of Phoenix is most likely a scam and best of luck ssafery, nice post.

Thank you chickasaw and TwinXL for your support. Chickasaw, contact me so you can talk to the lawyer I am speaking with as of 06/30/2009. If not contact Nancy Krop her information can be found here on this web site:

For all those lawyers in cyberspace who practice consumer law I'd suggest contacting Nancy Krop and collaborating with her so we can shut down this $2 billion dollar diploma mill. It's not right to take a students money, teach them nothing, then have them graduate with a worthless bachelors degree and a huge debt in student loans.

I will admit that your posting is for the most part well written, however I believe your expectations are out of whack with reality. How you can believe you are entitled to a job simply because you were a good student is simply remarkable. Even more stunning is how much money you think you will be earning in that career. If you started at 50k, you would be lucky. You are competeing in an oversaturated IT market against people with far more experience and education than you possess. You need to lower your expectations, or improve your marketability. I don't know how old you are, but you sound very young, and with that comes naivety. The real world is hard. Put on a helmet, and keep trying. I recently was one of 17 people hired at my new job. I competed against nearly 1300 applications. That's just over a 1% chance to land the job. Not even 10% made it to the interview process. This example should be fairly universal. Additionally, it sounds like you chose the wrong degree program, and the blame can only lay on yourself for not doing you due diligence. A B.S. only teaches foundations and principles, as you stated you learned. A B.A. would have been the proper degree for your job expectations. However, that does not mean a B.S. is a garbage degree. It simply did not meet up with your incorrect expectations of it. If you were misled by a counselor, shame on them. But don't knock an entire international accredited university because of your bad experience which, as I stated, sounds like the majority of the blame is yours. Nothing comes easy, and you chose a career in one of the most competitive fields in business. Better toughen up.

Here's a report you can read from lawyer Nancy Krop's web site.  It's an internal investigation into this stupid unaccredited university's business practices confirming whistle blower allegations that this university does pay its enrollment counselors based on the number of enrollments.

http://kroplaw.com/uop/DOE.report.on.UOP.pdf

Clearly, it's all about money first with no attention paid to the quality of education this fraudulent university is giving to their students.

This practice clearly shows that this university is unaccredited because they operate to enroll as much students as possible and not care about the students once the students are enrolled.  Why?  Because even if the students pass or fail, the university still gets paid.  Therefore, enroll uneducated students, have them fail, and the university will still get paid.  Enroll students that try, give them easy A's, an easy degree, no job experience and the university will still get paid.  There are millions of uneducated students globally and this is the market that this fraudulent university is tapping into.  Like it says in the report, they want to be the "Microsoft of Online Colleges."

And for your information, your knowledge level of college degrees epitomizes ignorance.  A B.S. or bachelors of science degree puts you in the laboratory, hence the "science", and in the lab you spend countless of hours building information systems.  A B.A. or bachelors of arts degree lacks the study of science so why would a computer science major enroll in a B.A. program?  Your answer would be to not study science.  Why would a computer science major not want to study science?  You're saying a B.A. degree would be the proper degree choice for my job.  I would still be unemployed with a B.A. degree should I have received one from the University of Phoenix Online.

Truth is, ex-employees and former students have blown the whistle and the United States Supreme Court in September 2009 will shut down this diploma mill!

While I agree that UOP is a den of thieves (my phrase)

My problem with them is their financial and accounting practices and misuse of Title 4 funds.

The education you get from them is no better and no worse than the same degree anywhere else. Ultimately you get out of it what you put into it. The BS/BIS is not a computer science degree it's a Business information systems degree. That means you learn just enough about the trenchwork to apply the information to the business world. What you've failed to realize is that the BS/BIS was designed to prepare the student for more of a management IS role. At least 1/3rd of my classes in the program 10 years ago were business and communication (as in talk not electronics).

I took my classes the traditional way with the group meetings and all. I didn't expect to become a programmer or network engineer. Skills like that come from a different course of study.

Hi J. Walker,

I found out way too late about the scam, I was just one class away from graduating. My I.T. classmates just told me to finish and that I wouldn't have a problem getting into the field as a programmer because I would receive my bachelors degree.

I got lied to by everyone that represented the UoP Online from the very beginning to the very end.

It will be interesting to see what the United States Supreme Court will say about them come September 2009 which is next month.

Hello,

I'm sorry you are not learning anything. I felt the same way in my first 5 classes too but I looked forward to learning about Information Technology only to find out that I barely learned anything at all in all of my I.T. classes. The University of Phoenix Online will always be there for the money first when they should be giving students a quality education!

My suggestion for you would be to drop out of the University of Phoenix and attend your local state university so you can get a real education. If U. of Phoenix threatens you, record all the phone calls, save all your emails, and contact Nancy Krop, she's a lawyer based out of Los Angeles, California. She might be able to help you.

Sincerely,

I feel for you man, I lived in Honolulu for 5 years, the Hawaii job market is totally different than the rest of the US. I remember being over there and not hearing any national news, the Local news in Hawaii concentrated on just that, LOCAL news. I think the UOP needs to be shut down, High School advisors told me DO NOT attend UOP they are too high in tuition and are not regionally accredited. Well it seems like alot of people are having problems finding jobs after graduating UOP, I don't think that's by accident.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your support. There are a lot of computer science jobs here in Honolulu but a U. of Phoenix Online degree definitely won't get a graduate from this school a job in any state. That's a good idea that your high school advisors told you not to attend this fraudulent university and I hope all high schools tell all their students to stay away from the U. of Phoenix.

I am 3 courses away from receiving my BS in Business Marketing at UoP. I have learned so much, and what I have learned has already advanced my career. Our HR Director is going to FGCU a state university here in Florida and our business courses cover the exact same material. I would say that the benefit of the online world is it greatly increases your written skills. However, it doesn't prepare you for giving speeches or presentations in front of people.

Maybe you need to network better. Do you have any work experience in the field you are applying for? If not, then you can expect that a degree is enough. Many people have degrees and experience.

Hello jenken27,

The reason why college students enroll in bachelors degree programs is to gain hands-on training for their field of study. For my Bachelor's of Science in Information Technology program at U. of Phoenix Online, the only experience I received was reading a few chapters of one course textbook, type papers, and participate in a learning team with students who could not use English properly, and this was for all my I.T. classes.

Computer science is a tough field I mean for the programming part, which is what I wanted to do, computer programming, I took Calculus I and II at another college, got A's for both classes, and then I was looking forward to taking Discrete Mathematics at U. of Phoenix because I love math and computers. All of these math classes are in the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Bachelor's of Science in Computer Information Sciences program and when I signed up at U. of Phoenix, their enrollment counselor told me that I would be learning the same concepts and principles of computer science if I chose to study at U. of Hawaii. Well, I never took Discrete Mathematics at U. of Phoenix Online. I was lied to and scammed by my U. of Phoenix enrollment counselor just so he could get my foot in the door so he could get paid. All he cared about was the money and not the quality of education I would receive.

For all you I.T. students out there who want a bachelors degree, don't enroll at U. of Phoenix Online, you won't learn anything.

Here's a lawsuit you can read about and I wish you success with your degree.

Sounds to me like you are just mad because you can't find a job which you thought having a degree entitled you to. That is definitely not the case. I have a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and I'm having a problem finding a job right now too. But it's not because Notre Dame is a fraudulent institution and needs to be shut down. It's because I live in Michigan (where there's a very high unemployment rate), and I don't have much experience which most employers are looking for. Companies have their pick of candidates for any of the few jobs they are offering right now because there are so many unemployed people. And while it may be nice that you have a degree, so do a lot of other people who also have years (if not decades) of experience. I don't care where you received your degree from, if I'm a hiring manager at a company and am looking for someone for a particular position, I would be looking at the people with the most experience first in most cases because education is really not a 1-to-1 substitute for experience.

My advice to you is to quite complaining about not being able to find a job. Keep looking for a job, but don't expect to find one simply because you have a degree. You have to try a lot harder than that, especially because you obviously don't have much experience. And I wish you luck because it seems to me that you are probably lacking in another important quality employers are looking for....a good attitude.

Vance,

Let me give you the facts straight out:

Were all your core classes 5-weeks long?

Did you read only the first few chapters of each course text for every course?

Did you type papers instead of doing hands-on training with computers and information systems for example connecting an entire information system together complete with http/email/ftp/SQL2005/,etc. servers?

Did your enrollment couselor at the U. of Notre Dame tell you that you'll be learning the same material if you decided to enroll at the U. of Phoenix Online?

Why don't you "google" how many lawsuits the U. of Phoenix lost over the past 10 years and just see how fraudulent this college is. How many lawsuits did the U. of Notre Dame lose in the past 10 years?

And I'm not just speaking for my Bachelor's of Science in I.T. program, I'm also speaking on behalf of all those students who couldn't get accepted into a college elsewhere because they got scammed by the University of Phoenix.

Phoenix's motto is, "If you can't get accepted into any college, we'll accept you." Is the U. of Notre Dame's motto the same?

These are just some things you can think over and good luck with your job hunt, you'll probably get in with a good company because you graduated from a state university.

I recently had the chance to look over some coursework for the U of P's first and second-year students. It appears these classes were designed for high school freshmen (no book reports for "Lord of the Flies" appeared in the syllabus, though). Their recruiting tactics border on stalker/car salesmen, and they seem to be all about signing people up.

I went through U of Phx to get a Master's in IT. I needed the online option as I was working full-time in the IT field already. Needless to say, the program was a total joke. I even turned in one group member for blatantly plagiarizing content directly from web sites. I noticed that they were doing this during class participation but felt I had to turn them in when it came to submitting our group paper. I wasn't about to submit a paper with my name on it when it contained obvious plagiarism.

As for the Apollo Group, I have tried to apply with them after being laid-off. My experience and skills fit to a T with what they do, yet I was repeatedly rejected. They did not even want to talk to me and I can only surmise that having a degree from U of Phx is like the kiss of death. I am still paying for what turned out to be the most worthless piece of education I ever received. So, no, you are not imagining anything. But i wouldn't feel too bad. From what I've heard from people who actually worked there it's a sweatshop and they don't actually care about the people that work for them.
