Ok - here I am on hub 2 of 30 in 30 days....and I already feel like I am a negative person because this is another hub about something that drives me crazy. I promise you though, I am really a pretty happy, easy going person - and hopefully some of that will shine through in the next 28 hubs! But for now I would like to share my thoughts on what I deem to be unnecessary road signs...

My husband and I were driving down to see his parents the other weekend (about a 3 hour trip) and I started to comment on all the road signs there are and ask do people really need all these signs?  My husband was oblivious to most of them, until I started pointing them all out to him - I don't know why, but I am one of those people who reads every sign I pass - even though I already know what it says and does not change what I am doing - my husband I guess pays more attention to the road! 

So have you ever looked at all the signs on our roads?  My 2 favorite are "Bridge Ices before Road" and "Stop Sign Ahead".  Yes, the bridge probably will ice before the road, but I don't think that slows people down or makes them more cautious crossing the bridge - maybe on some of the larger bridges it's a good idea, but I see one (usually 2) signs at every little creek, stream, etc that goes beneath the road.  And the "Stop Sign Ahead" seems silly as people should see the Stop Sign (Identifiable Red Octagon) and know to start slowing...and if the Stop Sign is hidden, maybe it should be moved to be more easily identified.  There are a lot of signs out there and at $100 or so a sign, we could be saving some money and spending it on other things that might be more beneficial to us tax payers - especially in today's economy. 

Just one more thing for you to ponder, and now next time you are driving you will be more aware of all those signs...do you really need them?  Did you even know they were all there?
