Digital hearing aids are considered the smart cousins of the older analog hearing aids. Digital hearing aids do the dirty work when it comes to letting the wearer hear everyday sounds while keeping out the static background noises that have given traditional users problems. What makes these hearing aids digital is that they contain a super tiny computer chip. It then uses mathematical equations to filter what the wearer hears. It's interesting to note that the technology was actually borrowed from the military and music recoding industries.
