Unplug the TV

What are you spending your time, talent and treasure on these days?

We’ve been without TV for over five years, and yes we’re “normal” Americans. We didn’t position ourselves to be where we are without a glossy box that used to get so much of our undivided attention; we just had two sets stolen and one set break and here we are.

The programming had changed so much by the time we got around to buying another TV that we returned it. Maybe it’s a bit like being outside when the sun’s going down and not realizing how dark it’s getting; But mainly we found more to do with our lives.

People are glued to there sets – they’ll ask if we’ve seen a show that we have never heard of and when we let them in on the fact that we don’t have TV they’ll quickly quip back that they don’t watch TV either. Then they’ll proceed to list the dozen shows on their must watch list for the week.

People are vested in their 212 channels; some people even reason that if they’re paying for the cable they need to get their money’s worth by watching as many hours as possible.

Taking pleasure in a bit of programming is relaxing and entertaining, but binging on the media can lead to an unbalanced life. Break out your hiking shoes or call a friend to go fishing. Enjoy an afternoon of fresh air watching folks back their boats into the water or nurture a long lost talent for which you couldn’t otherwise find time.
