Urban Survival and Surviving The Crash and New Depression
72Surviving The Crash
Are you prepared for a total economic collapse and crash similar to the great depression? One may very well be at our doorstep with the current crisis. We should all hope for the best and at the same time prepare for the worst.
Any number of scenarios could cause runaway inflation and a collapse of capitalism. In the wake of the recent economic crisis inflation could arise on a level that we have not seen in the United States.
Soon the effect of trillions of new dollars and euros in the system will show up as runaway inflation. We need only to look to third world countries like Zimbabwe, where it literally takes a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread.
It may be time to put some of your money into gold and silver and to stock up on long lasting things that may rise in price. See "How To Prepare For Hyperinflation
If you can afford to, stockpile enough food to last for several months. Buy freeze dried and dehydrated foods and even MRE's and stock them away.
As the economy worsens basic services that we take for granted like cell phone service, running water and electricity will fail.
You can prepare now by adding rooftop solar and a bank of batteries, or a backup generator powered by a large propane tank. You can add a rainwater collection system to provide water in case the supply is disrupted.
How To Protect Your Home
Personal protection is a highly debated subject. Whether you chose to arm yourself with a firearm or use mace or pepper spray, you should be familiar with it's use. If law and order were to break down you would need some means of personal protection.
Your home will become your fortress against an increasingly unstable outside world. Make it safe by installing a burglar alarm, window locks, deadbolts and have a backup generator.
Have A Survival Pack and A Plan
You should have an emergency pack, in case you have to relocate in a hurry. In it you should have food, medicine (your own personal medicines as well), cash, a survival knife and some kind of personal protection such as mace. Have a plan ready that you can implement to move your family to a safer place. Write down the numbers and addresses of friends and family in other towns and place this list in your survival pack. Bring any essential documents such as passports and papers with you.
For your vehicles you should have small survival packs, that include matches, food and a compass.
