Urinary tract infections are commonly seen in women and children. They are caused by bacteria multiplying in the urinary system. The most common cause is bacteria present on the rectum or vagina entering the urinary tract and forming an infection. Women are more susceptible to this infection during sexual intercourse. Another cause of urinary tract infection is holding back urine for long periods, which increases the chances of catching infection. Birth control measures like insertion of diaphragms, tubes in the bladder for surgery and unclean toilets also cause urinary tract infections.

Thumbs up! Good information for natural treatments. They are always a great first step when infections hit.
It can be upsetting just thinking about the increased instances of these type infections. This is especially true considering the new evidence suggesting that part of the increase in numbers is caused by our own focus on sanitizing everything. Our bodies first and most effective line of defense is a healthy balance of beneficial bacteria but we are killing them off by sanitizing everything. Ironic isn't it?

While I am sure your home remedies are well documented I do want to add that women should never let a urinary infection go on for too long without seeing a doctor. UTI's can kill you - plain and simple. The infection can go into the kidneys and cause major problems. If you feel nausea or pain in the lower back while having a UTI, go to the doctor or emergency room immediately. The only cure at this point is an antibiotic.
