Twitter...
Twitter...

Twitter came on the internet scene with a flurry of excitement and activity. Developed as a social networking vehicle it quickly turned into something quite different. Business people of all sizes and types began to see it as the perfect marketing opportunity to get their word out fast and furiously and do so as quickly as possible. Word spread fast that this was the way to go and that social networking was the best way to market your business.

Majority of Twitter Users Do NOT Use Twitter Effectively...

The results were not as promising as the hype largely because the marketers were not using the venue effectively. Twitter’s original intention was simply to give people an opportunity to connect and share information through short quick exchanges. News can travel fast this way so it stands to reason that spreading the word about your business might spread just as quickly.

Unfortunately, however, if what you do is promote your interests without thinking about who you’re promoting to, your message more than likely will fall on deaf ears. The majority of Twitter users do not use it effectively.

In fact, research has shown that most of the Twitter accounts that have been created are now largely inactive. Now, most of the tweets are being performed by only a small number of people. Those who do use Twitter for marketing purposes and other social networking tools do not use it appropriately.

Create A Right Marketing Strategy to Capitalize On Twitter...

The potential that may exist in these venues are not exploited in the most useful way. The marketers are looking for immediate results and are short sighted in the process. They do not adequately plan their strategy or have a clear long range vision of what they are trying to accomplish. Most just jump onto to Twitter and start sending out messages fast and furiously trying to get people to buy their products.

If you are able to build a following in this way, chances are your followers still will not respond to your attempts to sell your product to them. Just because you tell them they should buy, doesn’t mean they will.

More than likely, these people will be bothered by your intrusion on their space and these marketing attempts will likely backfire and create ill-will rather than a sale. They were enjoying their conversations and resent your intrusion into what was once an enjoyable activity. As a result, your followers will likely fall off and those that stay will just precede by ignoring your sales pitches.

Develop Relationships With Twitter Users That You Follow And Are Following You...

It is possible to avoid these negative results by creating a marketing strategy to capitalize on this social networking venue. Rather than simply tweeting a sales pitch, it is much preferable to develop relationships with those that you follow and are following you. Get to know them and then share things that are interesting. Offer useful information and respond to their tweets with interest. You can still tell these people about your business and any news that is relevant. But, in the contest of a relationship and friendship it will be received quite differently.

By developing a long term strategy that includes building relationships and connections with people will help you avoid the common pitfall that so many people fall into when using Twitter as a marketing tool.
