Use Your Intuition.

Everyone has it.

I must start off by saying that EVERYONE has intuition. You can deny it all you want and make fun of all us "crack pots" but it is simply just true. Call it what you like: God, higher-self, the Universe, angels, instinct or any of the other terms that come from various religions. I am here to say I believe it all comes from the same source that no matter what you call it and it is by no means a bad thing. You can deny you have it all you want but "it" is there for all of us to tap into if we so choose. The more you use it the stronger it gets. It really is a wonderful gift. Why not use it to your advantage?

We all have had those little experiences and probably some big ones too. We have them every day and just don't notice them. The phone rings just as you think of someone, you see someone after 20 years who you had just thought of, you are on vacation in another country and bump into an old college roommate. you see someone at an airport who you can't stop looking at and them boom you are seated next to them. Next thing you know they offer you a job. You are at a party or in a crowd and all of a sudden you begin to feel angry or upset. Just look next to you I am sure you are picking up energy from someone close by. Your gut just tells you, "I don't like that person." Or you think something sounds great on the surface but for some reason you just feel uneasy about it. Most of us write these experiences off to nothing more than a mere coincidence. What are the chances that is true? Use these experiences and feelings to your advantage. That is what they are there for. Oh and for the record I believe there are really very few coincidences if any at all.

How it Began.

As the story goes....I was 3 years old and my parents decided to take me one Sunday afternoon to an old Inn in Connecticut for Sunday Brunch. The Inn was well known and very refined. Not the usual stomping ground for a 3 year old child. I was an only child who was very well behaved, quite accustomed to elegant dining and very grown up situations at an early age. Even still I can only imagine my mother being a bit stressed by this jaunt to Connecticut for brunch with a 3 year old. As we entered the Inn my mother noticed I became agitated immediately upon our arrival. As soon as I passed through the old Inn's large front door I ran through with the speed of light and began to run from room to room disturbing quite a few of the guests. My mother was mortified as she herself was refined and not really willing to take this behavior in stride. I continued to become unusually anxious to the point neither of my parents had ever seen. I began to demand to see the fireplace constantly repeating ";Where is the fireplace";, ";Where did you put the fireplace!"; I finally just stood and pointed to a wall crying and said "Where is the Fireplace!"; The Inn's manager looked very disturbed but apparently not by my histrionics. He pulled my mother aside and sheepishly said that when the Inn was built many many years before there had been a fireplace in that exact spot yet there were no visible signs today. That was the first experience my mother remembers noticing.

The second profound experience I do clearly remember. I was sitting in the back seat of my mother's car being seen and not heard when I was probably 5 or 6 years old. She was in the front talking to her friend when I heard her mention another one of her friends, Alexandra Dans. I spontaneously popped up from the backseat and loudly exclaimed, "Alexandra Dan's mother is going to die today!" Well my, once again, proper mother was not too happy with my apparent rudeness. When it finally registered what I had said she was very upset. She said "Oh that is not nice, etc, etc, etc." I felt embarrassed and wasn't really quite sure why I had said that. Well, sure enough Alexandra Dan's mother did die that night. That was when, I think, my mother knew for sure that I was a bit like her mother. My grandmother was beautiful blue eyed toe head who was a creative, talented and a bit of a lost soul. She had many interesting hobbies one being Tea Leaf and playing card reading, usual done on the sly back then. I never really new this when I was young as she died when I was 11 years old. My mother often in later years would say her mother had "The Second Sight." My mother had very good intuition as well but never really used it and when she did felt guilty about it. She later went through a period where she felt her intuition or psychic gifts did not match with her religious beliefs. She pretty much shut down that aspect of herself and even her strong interest in Astrology. I was always raised as if intuition was a completely natural thing along with psychic ability and Astrology, etc but these things were not something we worked on and strengthened.

Find It and Use It.

If you have read thus far you probably feel there is some merritt to using your intuition. Honestly, you really do have it and the more you use it and rely on it the stronger it will get. Not everyone sees ghosts, reads tarot cards or can touch someones hand and tell them intimate things about themselves but everyone can use their gut!

Intuition is really the first step in opening yourself up to further experiences- if you want them. If not, you need to follow your gut anyway. You all have that little voice inside that comes off as that"nagging" feeling. That "nagging" feeling is what you need to listen to. Trust me, much like people when you listen it will stop nagging you. If you do something that does not resinate with you whether it be a job or just hanging around the wrong people that gut will pop up to alert you that it is wrong. It will sit on you like a rock until you change it. Some of us are so accustomed to living with that weight that you don't even notice it. Time to shed the extra pounds!

Start small and just see what happens. You can't be choosy with the gut it works best if you do it across the board. The next time you can't stop thinking about someone you haven't seen in years call them or search them on-line. Next time you have a dream about someone or something that you can't get off your mind think about what you can do to fix it. Next time you meet someone that makes you feel unsettled, stay away. Next time you are about to make a decision and that "old nagging feeling" is there don't do it. Each day these experiences are in front of us from driving to shopping to friends.

If you are open to hearing that voice it will get stronger every day. Dreams are a great way to help speed the process. Write down all your dreams the minute you wake up. If you wait your conscious mind will filter them much like how your gut feelings get filtered and you won't remember them. The conscious mind has a way to over-ride intuition. Write down when you follow your intuition and the outcome vs. when you don't follow it.

It is a fascinating Universe we live in. It is here for us to use to our benefit. If we don't we are not living the fullest life we can. Be positive and believe!

I have always wondered about when you meet a person for the first time and you hit it off right away? And there are people you may have known for years, but there always seems to be something in between.

Intuition at work?

Hi, I can really relate to all of this. I have had many, many, many experiences that have given me goosebumps--the sheer coincidence, (or not) of them. And the dreams of acquaintances that can be so detailed--something's very real about intuition!

Very well written and very interesting topic. I was actually absolutely into ESP and was researching the subject many years ago. I do believe it exists, even though it is difficult to prove. I agree with you that we have to listen to our intuition and follow it. However sometimes it is difficult to differentiate your wishful thinking and intuition, emotions and intuition. Sometimes we do feel something and it does happen, but how many times it doesn’t? It is amazing about dreams interpretation and how true it is. But if you believe that the future is predetermined, how can you use your intuition and fix or change it?

Interesting point. If everything is predetermined how can we change it? Well, free-will is a possibility. However, it is possible that we through our thoughts and actions can change and determine our future. Thanks for the comment.

Okay, so here is some intuition for you. The last couple of days I've been thinking about learning how to read tarot cards. I've thought about it before, but just today I ordered a deck and a book. Now, I've clicked on your page and here I find what I believe is a tarot card, "the star." Am I correct.

"The path has signs all along the way."

I've always had feelings about people. I'm always right about them when it is negative, but sometimes I am fooled when I think they are okay and there turns out to be some negative aspect about them that is not something I want in my life.

I fully agree with you> I too read Tarot Cards for a number of years. I still get mine read. If you feel you are supposed to read them you are. The cards are just a "medium" No punn intended to channel your intuition. You can use various meduims. It seems Tarot is calling you now. Good luck and thanks for the post.

Hi Candice,, it sounds like you may have more than just intuition!!

I have never seen ghosts or anything as such, but i so value and respect my Intuition which has and keeps me alive and helps me make very good judgements because of this tool..

Great hub! I've always been dialed in to my intuition/spirit. I also learned to quit telling people anything that was revealed to me as it scares the daylights out of them. It could be anything from how to avoid a serious car accident to what they had for lunch two weeks ago caused a problem. Over time I figured out that the reason those specifics were revealed is so I could pray support for the person in what was to become an upcoming crisis. Telling them ahead of time is useless as the ego's fear makes them resistant.

You are right to trust your intuition. And, yes, the conscious mind/cultural ego likes to reign supreme over the spirit and run the daily show. Unfortunately, the ego just isn't as smart as the spirit! Basically, don't allow a half-wit (ego) to boss around the genius (spirit). grin.

Write some more on this subject, definitely a favorite with a lot of us. As to the reference of Second Sight - do you also have some Scottish roots? I find a lot of Celtic families like mine are strong on intuitive ability - even the ones who claim to be atheists! Now that's a real ironic chuckle, isn't it?

Keep going, you are on a roll! Welcome to hubpages!

I think intuition also comes with experiences in life. Definitely a very important part of decision making in business. Great info. Thanks!
