Used Ford Trucks
80Buying A Used Ford Truck
Not surprisingly, used Ford trucks are a good buy. Many owners have bought Ford trucks again and again because they are durable, have a large carrying capacity and get high marks on many features. Used Ford trucks make it to the market in enough numbers to keep the prices reasonable and the choices are excellent.
Trucks generally don't undergo major updates every year like cars. Traditionally they keep their features the same for much longer than car models. This makes it easier to compare years as you look at such features as payload, towing, cab capacity, and cargo hauling capacity.
Used Ford trucks come in heavy duty three quarter and half-ton bodies. Optional heavy-duty suspensions may be required for greater payload capacity. So, as you look over the used Ford trucks available, you will want to keep in mind these features.
Standard towing capacity can be 4,500 tons but go up to over 8,000. If the truck will be used regularly to handle a trailer or camper, this might be a significant feature to look at. In some used Ford trucks, towing capacity may have been increased through trailer-towing packages.
Rear wheel drive is often a feature. So, it's something to consider as you look at the conditions in which you drive regularly. The other option, of course, is standard four-wheel-drive. Braking systems are another varying feature and include ABS and anti-lock systems.
The next consideration when looking at used Ford trucks is the door configuration. Many regular cab models have only two doors. However, F-series cabs offer four-door box designs. These rear-hinged doors offer more room for entry and exit of the vehicle. This makes the box style favorable to many buyers. Extended and crew cabs generally have four doors to allow access to the rear seats or cargo areas.
A roomy cab is a must for many truck drivers. You may need room for families, friends, coworkers or employees. Used Ford trucks were often the first to offer greater room to riders. Rear leg-room and seatback angle are two ways to measure expected riding comfort in a used Ford truck.
