Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a colorless liquid solution that is known for its cleansing and whitening effect. It is mostly available in diluted form (3% hydrogen peroxide and 97% water) but higher strength solution can also be found in health stores. Hydrogen peroxide comes in a thick plastic bottle or brown bottles to protect it against the sun's rays, because it breaks down quickly when exposed to light.

Uses:

  • Clean your counters, table tops, mirrors, shower tiles, garbage can with hydrogen peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell.
  • As disinfectant to wooden cutting board. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill bacteria.
  • Hydrogen peroxide can also be use to whiten your laundry. If there is blood stain just pour hydrogen peroxide on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.
  • As mouthwash and to whiten teeth. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) 3% hydrogen peroxide and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out.

  • Hydrogen peroxide can give a natural highlight for light brown hair. Just spray the 50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages, but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown.
  • Hydrogen peroxide to cure a foot fungus and wound. Spray a 50/50 mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water on the affected area every night and let dry.
  • Hydrogen peroxide as douche. Just add 2 capfuls of 3% hydrogen peroxide in warm distilled water once to twice a week to treat chronic yeast infections.
  • You can also soak your toothbrush in hydrogen peroxide to keep them free of germs.

  • Use hydrogen peroxide to sanitize public drinking fountain. Just splash some peroxide on the spout and let it set for several seconds. Then turn the water on and let it run to the count of five before you drink from it.
  • Hydrogen peroxide can also be use to clean the vegetables and neutralize chemicals. Just add 1/4 cup 3% hydrogen peroxide to a full sink of cold water. Soak light skinned (light lettuce) 20 minutes, thicker skinned (like cucumbers) 30 minutes. Drain, dry and refrigerate to prolong freshness.
  • Hydrogen peroxide for a healthy houseplant. Mix up an ounce of 3% hydrogen peroxide into a cup of water and spray your houseplants with this solution. It will help your houseplants grow greener and more lush.

NOTE: Do not swallow any peroxide. When the peroxide rinse is done, be sure to rinse out your mouth with tap water.

Caution! The pure hydrogen peroxide is dangerous if not used correctly.
