Parsley! Growing, Eating, and Using

Parsley is an immensely popular vegetable. It has been used since the Roman  times. Growing Parsley is easy. It is a hardy plant that can winter outside.

Parsley is a biennial, it can be grown as an annual, especially in colder climates.

Parsley plants can beplanted indoors or outside. I like to sow parsley seeds indoors in containers, and let them grow for a few weeks prior to putting on my  patio. These plants transplant easily.

I Sow seeds pretty thin. Parsley seeds are so fine, I just sow on top of the soil and just water them. Germination takes 10 days to two weeks. Young parsley plants grow slowly.

Parsley will grow in partly shady areas, but the dirt should be rich in nutrients. This herb grows easily, tolerates poor soil, and poor drainage. Be careful of overwatering and leaving in thunderstorms. I  destroyed a whole bath in July just by leaving them out in the elements!

Harvest Parley when leaves begin to turn. Be careful of pulling the root up also if you don't want the whole plant.  As with all harvests, the best time of day is just after the dew evaporates and before the sun is fully hot.

Medicinal Uses of Parlsey:

Use  a oil of Parlsey for head lice.

Eat fresh Sprigs for sweeter breath.

Make a paste with water and ground parsley in your mortar and pestle for stings and  bug bites.

Mix with tea and soak a cloth. cover eyes with cloth to refresh tired, red eyes.

Pregnant  women should avoid parlsey as it can irritate the kidneys and  stimulate the uterus.

It was also associated with death and reincarnation. Incense of Parley can be burned to ward off early inebriation. Haven't tried that one yet!
