Google Adwords is arguably the fastest and the best advertising tool on the internet. How does this work? You place an ad on Google.com and every time someone clicks on your ad is sent to your website and you are charged an agreed price for that click (the price is usually set by "bidding" on certain keywords before you submit your ad).

The keywords you choose to "bid" on are words related to the product you are selling. When you place a bid, you are in competition with other internet marketers who advertise on the same keywords. Usually, the higher the price you bid for any keyword, the higher up your ad will appear on Google's webpage when a searcher types in that particular keyword into Google.com.

Ideally, your ad should appear in the top 5 Adwords results on the page each time a searcher types in your keywords. But there are different other factors that Google takes into account in order to determine on which position your ad should be placed.

One very important factor is Click Through Rate (CTR). For example if your ad appears 100 times on the Google's result page and if out of those 100 impressions your ad gets clicked 10 times, Google would record that your ad is having a 10% click through rate. This factor is very important because if you have a significantly higher CTR than some other advertiser, your ad will be placed on a higher position on the result page, despite the fact that the other advertiser is bidding a much higher price on the same keywords.

To get a higher CTR, you need to write a good ad that will stand out to your customer. When possible, you need to show your major keyword in your ad's headline.

The second line should be a benefit that people searching on your keyword want to find. Ads often perform better when benefits come first.

In the third line you should describe a feature that your product has to offer.

The fourth line is the display URL which needs to send traffic to an actual page on your site. Your display URL should be relevant to what your customers are searching for.

The fifth line is the destination URL or landing page. You shold not send people to your home page, instead you shold take them directly to the page where the product you're trying to sell is displayed.

When setting up your ad's campaign, you are given the option of deciding how much do you want to spend , on average, per day and what is the maximum you are willing to pay each time someone clicks on your ad. If you are on a tight budget early on, it's better to lower your bid prices so you can get one of the last positions on Google's first page and be seen the whole day than position one or two and only seen 20% of the time.

Once you start getting clicks, your landing page have to be able to convert visitors into buyers. This is the most important aspect of your business if your purpose was to sell a product. You can use Adwords for different other purposes. For example you can drive traffic to build your own list of subscribers. Once they sign up, you can send them promotions without having to spend any money.

A succesful ad campaign is the one that finds persons whose needs can fill the best. Keep this principle in mind an put it in practice. Google has a system that makes it possible, for the first time in the history of the world, to deposit five bucks, write a couple of ads, and instantly get access to over 100 million people - in less then 10 minutes.

But it's not always as easy as it sounds - Adwords has some nuances, and most people have a rough time at first. Perry Marshall is a well-known and respected expert in the field and he has written a very helpful e-course called "5 Days To Success With Google Adwords" and there is no charge for it.
