A Home Comforter is like a Quilt

As I went through the requested hubs that hubpages had put up about a week ago, I remember wondering what a Home Comforter was. So as I went about answering the one for Mushroom Sauce I made up my mind to come back and check it out in a week.

Well the week is up and there is still no answer. So by now I was really curious. What is this mysterious thing that no one knows about? Or wants to write about? So I googled the term and guess what? A Home Comforter is nothing more than bed linnen used in winter. What we call quilts!

So here's the deal with quilts or if you prefer to call them that, Home Comforters. Essentially they are used to cover yourself with when you feel really cold. One major difference is that quilts are usually stuffed with cotton and can be very heavy. While a Home Comforter is supposed to be stuffed with polyfill and is rather light.

Using Home Comforter Sets

Some more research threw up the fact that there are lovely sets of Home Comforters avaialble in online stores. This includes not only the quilt but matching bedsheets, pillow covers and cushion covers. In fact some of them claim to be a 7 piece set. It makes coordinating the whole bedroom linen a really simple task.

I know the number of hours I've spent hunting for bedsheets and pillow covers in that particular shade of cream or green that I have a quilt in. The contrast is much easier to work out. Looks quite good in some cases as well. But if you want it all looking alike you will have to really look hard for a comforter set here.

Only I feel its a complete waste in my house as my four year old son manages to dirty the sheets really fast. Which means that the quilt and sheets never match after the first time I lay them out. In fact at times I feel that my laying out new sheets is like a red rag to a bull. He comes and hops on to the freshly made bed with all the energy and enthusiasm of a rabbit. The next couple of days pass and its time to change the sheets again.

So now I have taken to buying only printed sheets for his room. I love plain ones in mine, but the effort of changing them thrice a week is kind of tiring me out. Maybe you are not as fussy as I am and would enjoy your children more than your clean sheets. I don't know about that, but I feel that nice patterns on the sheets are the answer to my problem.

Well researched reply. In Mumbai, we dont need them. We use Sholapur Chaddar instead. Ludhiayana blankets are also available here.

Mumbai has no winter worth the name, but these light weight comforters may come in handy in air conditioned rooms. Maybe even the jaipuri razai.
