Using Twitter to Your Advantage
55
We all have probably heard of the website Twitter. Twitter allows people to ‘follow’ other people and write updates, just like the status bar on FaceBook. I got a twitter (johnb0127) recently to help generate traffic to my hubs. The traffic seems to be at a minimum, but I just started. I do expect more traffic. Anyway, if you do get a twitter for HubPages or the social experience, here are some tips on using twitter to your advantage.
Using the Update Status Bar
This is the main way to generate traffic to your hubs. Have a facebook? Twitter is just like facebook without all the groups, applications, etc; twitter is just a status bar. In the status bar, you can put, for example: ‘Going on a trip this summer? Visit my hub ‘Top Ten Games to Play in the Car’ then insert URL. This is the main way for traffic to each your hubs.
There is another way too. Once you follow someone, you have the opportunity to send them a direct message. In this message, you can say something like ‘Thanks for the follow! Visit my hubs at insert URL’. Also, there is a small section for your profile. In your profile area, you could list out some hubs or put your profile on Hubpages link there for people to visit.
Also, you can advertise Hubpages. Here is one of my updates: Hubpages.com! You can write over anything topic you want and even earn money while doing it! http://hubpages.com/_jb0127 to learn more! This update could attract new members to Hubpages. Remember if you do this, you can insert your URL Tracker in there!
Tell Celebrities About your Hubs!
As you may know, many celebrities have a twitter and love to post updates. If you become someone’s follower, as I said, you can leave them direct messages. In that direct message, you could post the link of a hub you wrote about them. But be careful, many celebrities on Twitter are fake. This link below is Julie Ann Amos’ hub on Twitter and detecting Twitter fakers!

Celebrities on Twitter? Surely not for real? Oh yes. Well, it seems Twitter is not just the place where us everyday folk congregate and discuss what we’re up to. Minor and major celebrities from all over...
Thanks for visiting this hub! I hope you learned how to generate a little bit of traffic through Twitter.

helpful hub. I joined twitter two weeks ago.
Cool, thanks!
great hub John--I've been wondering how the whole twitter thing worked. I have facebook and myspace but haven't ventured much past that. It does sound like a great way to get some traffic, though. Do you see much traffic coming from it?
Not a great deal of traffic, but I think with a lot of followers you can get a lot of traffic. I have 9 total page views from twitter, but I don't have a lot of followers
Good info. I'm have a twitter account and have been using it to promote my hubs, but like you said it is slow going so far.
Yeah, I hope it will pick up. Thanks.
I like your idea to use your status. I don't have enough twitter friends for this to help a lot right now. Follow me ! twitter.com/thenoseknows

Hy John:
Thanks for a great intro to Twitter. Sounds like a a good idea to have a Twitter account. I'm worried that I may cease to have an ordinary social life after I join it! LOL!
Haha Thanks !
