Zip Base: the definition of reliability

Zip "base", the 1996 basic version of the best-selling Zip, is the ideal vehicle for those who live and work in the city. Suitable for anyone because of its classic lines and ease of use, it is the scooter for people who want a simple, reliable and economical means of transport which also has good performances, is comfortable and fun. Younger riders will also appreciate its compact weight, low saddle and incredible manoeuvrability.

The design, while maintaining the pleasing lines which created the success of the Zip, has been modified: the front shield with the integrated and sharper indicators is new, as is the saddle in non-skid material and the rear carrier.

Other novelties include pastel and metallic colours and new, elegant graphics. The instrumentation has been modified, as well; it now has a clear, legible grey base, with the fuel gauge and speedometer and four service indicators. If the design has been renewed, so have the mechanicals: the fork has been completely redesigned and redone, and the rear shock absorber is now the double-effect type. Besides, the brake plan now has a rear drum with the diameter increased to 110 mm. The new-design wheels host tyres that have been considerably augmented on the front suspension.

To further improve the fluidity of supply and contain fuel consumption, Piaggio Engineering also worked on the engine, optimising the air flow by adopting a new air filter with an internal opening, and a new and more efficient silencer. The leverage of the stand was revised for greater ease of use, and the front projector equipped with dual lights for improved security.
