Business And Social Networking Is Necessary

Business networking events and group mastermind sessions are an important part of the modern workplace. Whether you have an offline or and online business, networking is a necessary skill to be honed. To be able to work successfully as a team, planning projects, building powerful alliances and networks, and forecasting trends, requires qualities that are not inherent in many people.

There are some common sense tips that you should be aware of, if your industry or boss requires a lot of schmoozing, travel, public speaking, or seminar events. I only want to remind you of these as I'm sure you instinctively understand the importance of following proper protocol when on company time. Listed below are a few simple tips...

Avoid Alcohol

Many business events have alcoholic beverages, beer, and wine readily available. Maybe to take off the edge and bring down the stress level. While it does seem like a social thing to do... this is to be avoided. It can impair your judgment and actually ruin your chances of being productive or building proper relationships.

Bring Business Cards

That's obvious right? Well how many times have you went off to a meeting and left yours sitting in the box on the table? This is a event made for business cards. You have to consider that you do not come in contact with these folks very often, they are meeting a lot of people at these events, and can you really expect that they will remember details necessary to stay in touch in the future? Even if you know each other by name, be generous and thoughtful, and just give them a card for their reference files.

Be Prepared

Everyone should have a 30-second "elevator pitch" that sums up very quickly, key business and personal activities and goals. That first impression counts and sometimes you only get one chance to make your mark and let people understand who you really are.

Smile And Be Friendly

A smile and a hearty handshake can do wonders for a room full of nervous (or grumpy) business people. You may not feel up to par that day, or have other personal issues, but a seminar or business networking session is not the time to let your guard down. Just plaster a smile on your face and before you know it, you will actually begin to feel better. Most likely when all is said and done, you will be glad that you attended the business event and made new friends. Let your peers and other business contacts know that you would like to partner with them on projects in the future. That is the main reason for these events, many times.

Follow Up

Make sure to thank your host or hostess for the opportunity to guest speak or attend the conference or seminar. Make sure that you return home with business cards and other important information that you have collected. Hopefully, you have made alot of friends and influenced alot of people. Hopefully, you have renewed old friendships and started some new ones. Now, there is one more thing that you must do as soon as you return home. You must literally make notes concerning these new connections and give them follow up calls.

On A Personal Note...

In addition to the professional mindset that business networking events demand, there must be a personal connection to those who one intends to build a product or business with. For many who are already successful in their field, it may not seem necessary to get out of their comfort zone, interrupting busy schedules to meet and greet, plan and project future trends.

But it is actually very healthy for individuals to remain socially connected as they rise in their career and become extremely successful. It is easy to become isolated as a CEO... the accountability and friendship, common bonds, failures and successes should indeed be shared among peers.

In Conclusion

In our culture, success is usually measured in terms of money, beauty, and "bling." But true success is hidden in the spirit and is revealed by relationships. Meaningful and lasting friendships, building trust and enhancing every area of our lives and businesses.

I hope you have enjoyed my article about success, building relationships, and business networking. This is my first Hubpage so I hope that you find it informative and useful as you move forward in your journey to meet your goals, fulfill your dreams and obtain the success you deserve.
