There are various places in this world where people think that domestic violence against a women Is a human right issue. Even the United Nations Committee has also recommended that parties should act to protect women against any kind of violence especially that happen within the family.

In India where a women is subjected to cruelty by her husband or his relatives, it is an offence under section 498-A IPC  and now the legislature have presented a bill for protection of women from Domestic Violence .

The Bill covers those women who are or have been in a relationship with the abuser where both lived together  in a shared household and are related by marriage or through a relationships with family members living together as a joint family are also included. Even the women who are sisters, widows, mothers ,single women or living with the abuser are entitled for the protection  from the law.

It is important that the Bill passed by Legislature  also gives the right to the wife or the female living in relationship to file a complaint against the husband or the male partner  but not against the wife or female partner.

Legislature also securing housing right of a women. It gives the women a living right in her matrimonial home as well as in shared household even though she does not have any right or title in such home.

Any aggrieved women file a complaint before the concern magistrate or protection officer who on receipt of the complaint can provide medical aid or shelter home to the aggrieved women. Even the aggrieved women can get monetary relief from the court for the expenses or loss suffered by the women due to the violence. This law also provide for the punishment of the protection officer in case he failed to perform his duties.

Ultimately good news ladies , Government now wake up and thinking about you ,and  enacted a law which gives you protection from the violence that faced by you in your family.
