Top Ten Preventions

These are my top 10 steps to prevent future vaginal yeast infection symptoms:

  1. I wear cotton, not nylon, underwear.
  2. I avoid tight-fitting pants and panty hose.
  3. I change out of a wet swimsuit right away.
  4. I do not use douches and feminine sprays
  5. I do not use scented toilet paper.

I know that multiple vaginal yeast infections may be a sign of other health problems, such as diabetes, and I have an annual checkup.

Yeast Infections Are Common...

As it turns out yeast infections are common, and most women will have a vaginal yeast infection at some time in their life. My symptoms of a yeast infection included itching, burning, redness, and irritation of the vaginal area.

Yes, you can prevent vaginal yeast infection symptoms by making sure that your genital area stays as dry as possible and can "breathe." But even if you were to only wear loose cotton clothing, you may get a yeast infection after a course of antibiotics like I did. It all comes down to this - a healthy vagina has many bacteria and a small number of yeast cells. As I have learned, the most common bacteria, Lactobacillus acidophilus, help keep other organisms, such as the yeast, under control. But here’s a problem… antibiotics change the healthy balance between organisms in the vagina by decreasing the number of protective bacteria. This may not be avoided, but you can keep a chronic yeast infection under control as I have with a 5 step holistic system.

If Unsure...

I can’t stress this enough; it’s easy to guess wrong about a vaginal infection. Please see your family doctor if you aren't sure it is a vaginal yeast infection causing your symptoms. Also see your doctor if you are pregnant. Your doctor may want to do a vaginal exam.

I want to share with you what I do to prevent an over-growth of yeast. First, I follow a dietary plan that prevents the cravings for foods that cause the imbalance of bacteria. Next I follow the stress reduction methods in the plan because stress also changes the chemistry of the body.
