Valentine's Day: Poetry for Roses
59Unpoem for the Valentine Roseslug
lonely Valentine roseslug
creeps it's long sticky path
across the pale pastel and
delicate spring roses
that carefully try to grow
in the early darkened garden
lonely Valentine roseslug
devours petals inching along
alone
then wonders why there is
so little beauty left in the world
.
Image Notes
I found this beautiful photo by audreyjm529 on flickr.
Beautiful nature photography all the way around.

Notes on the unpoem
Somehow to me this was a mix of Danny Kaye's inchworm song from the Hans Christian Anderson film of my childhood - link -, if only the image and the pace, and Bob Dylan's important piece on choice and consequence and the world at large - "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall":
"...Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, what did you see, my darling young one?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it,
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin',
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin',
I saw a white ladder all covered with water,
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken,
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children,
And it's a hard, and it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard,
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall..." (bob dylan)
.
per request: 4 words 4 a poet
and this one is none of them.
to the poet promised, four words it shall be. this is just a pre-V poem and unrelated. :p
.
Additional Notes
I'm not much of a gardener, although something of a better lover. In keeping with that romantic forte, however, one of the few things I've successfully grown over the years are rose bushes. I used to plant them everywhere I moved and they always took. So there is your trivia for the day.

ah thx. well, I figure it's a dirty job but somebody had to do it. :D
at least I remain as upbeat and optimistic in my unpoetry as I do in my news, yes?
I actually have some real V day stuff in the works, a request, so something a little softer tonight, I would think.
on a side note, I've been humming bob dylan all day so far :hmm:
I'll be looking for it-- I especially like V'day cause it is also my birthday(yes really) and I always thought it was nice others had a holiday to celebrate, but to me the big news when I was a kid was that it was my birthdag, moi? self-centered? :-) Back to myhub<see me hub hub hubbing>
:O ZOMG, how cool!
now I shall know when to wish you a very merry birthday, but since that is still two more days away, I shall instead wish a Very Merry Unbirthday to you today, also. Isn't that Winnie the Pooh, or have I gone completely around the bend?
gah, now THAT song is stuck in my head. it's a bad dayz for headz around here. hehehe
Happy Birthday robie2!
I love roseslug! Great idea to blend the icky and beauty into one. I am at envying your rosebush as well!
Roses, bugs & Bob Dylan. It's a good day. :)
rogueling! yeah, I had no idea a V day slug would be so pleasing. They really are called roseslugs. I had to look up rose parasites. :D
I like roseslug. I shall say it everyday. :)
I have to find a pic for my new poem. I have much nicer text image coming for laterz.
Great hub-I love Bob Dylan
me too, I went back and listened to that song twice today.
yes, this poem was a bit of silliness, but not all silly. I attached it to V day because I kept seeing that image of a worm on a rose and thinking about it, and the timing was V day.
but it was about how people make choices and how those choices they think they are doing to others end up affecting mostly only themselves, but they can't see it.
we all make mistakes, keep making some, and all we can do it try to do better and better in future. I admit I think it would be nice if others would try with themselves too, as hard as I try with me.
Iounn,Very nice images. Your unpoems are great!!!Cheers,
Ben
lol thx. this is a rare piece of humor. I don't usually do silly in unpoetry but I had fun with it this time. even my silly is semi-serious though, kind of like all Irish film. :o
roseslug glides along
silky petals leaving a
gooey wet slugprint
zomg... slubprintz  poetically delightful replacement for a slimy trail left behind by the eaters of beauty.
creating magic
from the slugprintz in our lives
is what rogues do best
roses and ooze...who could ask for anything more?
well. me. I'd rather pass on the ooze. we don't always get a choice though lol.
I suppose one might say that without the slugz of life how would we know when roses enter our lives... some idiocy along those lines. I think I could know roses are great without slugs, but I could be wrong. I have been before. :p
Slugs can be lovely. As long as you're just looking...like spikeless oblong blowfishes....full of slime. :)
lolz. ok, if you put it like that. I was never really a worm or centipede type person.
centipedes :O
I won't even touch one to fish. However, if I can just admire them from really really afar, I shall try to think of them as spikeless oblong blowfishies, just for you.
they do have a cute name. that website on rose bush parasites was a real find, since I grow them regularly.
Would a roseslug by any other name be as cute?
let's take back the Slug Revolution - up with the Real Fight! (I need to find that stupid Red Fist avatar) :p

hi Iðunn--another wonderful creative offering--a beautiful unpoem to the valentine slug. You have a way of touching the heart with your "unpoems" all year round. Kudos.
