Blessed Mary is known as Vallarpadath Amma in Vallarpadam along with lot of real happenings and miracles. Lot of people come to see Vallarpadathamma every month. This Church was started in 1676 and the photo of Mother Mary along with Infant Jesus was brought by Portugese. Once at the time of heavy flood, the church was flooded by water and this photos gell into the water and it started floating in the river. Paliyath Raman Valiyachan of Cochin recovered this photo and gave it back. He also gave land for building the church and gave a lamp which burns all day and night from the year 1676 . Many times people around Vallarpadam were saved by this Mother. This church is situated next to Bolghatty Island and Ernakulam. Another miracle that happened many years later was when Vallarpadath Amma saved Meenakshiyamma a Nair woman and her little son from the river when they fell into water when the boat fell in heavy storm. Meenakshiyamma told Vallarpadathamma that she will become the Adima or slave for her whole lifetime in return for saving their life. The Altar of this Church was given special importance by making it Altare Privilegiatum in Perpetuum Concessum by the Pope Leo XIII in 1888. This place is also known as Kochu Velankanni. The main offering in this church is sweeping the church premises with a broom.
