San Francisco Bay

Vallejo-Fairfield-Napa is a Metropolitan area containing two smaller workforce related statistical areas: Napa and Vallejo-Fairfield California. These cities include Napa and Solano counties, which combine with seven additional counties to form the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. The five most populous cities in Vallejo-Fairfield-Napa are Vallejo, Fairfield, Vacaville, Napa, and Davis.

Napa/Napa Valley is famous part of the sunny San Franciso Bay Area. Napa County is largely agriculture and a substantial producer of grapes and popular wines and was futerh popularized as the setting for the TV drama Falcon Crest, but renamed Tuscany Valley rather than Napa Valley. Notoriously unappreciative of soap operas overall, I enjoyed Falcon Crest on Friday nights, because of the setting and the offbeat characters, especially as portrayed by Chao-Li Chi, Jane Wyman, and David Selby. The actual winery pictured in shots of the series is Spring Mountain, just north of SF in the Napa Valley.

Historic Background.

The City of Vallejo was California's capital twice, in 1852 and again briefly on 1853. Named aster a Mexican military hero, Vallejo is located on the Napa River. together with Napa and Fairfield, it has been named to the 25 Best Cities List for medium sized US cities by Inc. magazine several times.

The City of Fairfield is the County Seat of Solano County (named after a Native American Chief) and is home to Travis Air rorce base and Annheuser Busch Brewery. Native American artifacts found in this area have been dated back 6,000 years to 4,000 BC. Today, Fairfield is embracing sustainability though revitalizing with pocket parks and neighborhood parts throughout the city. Several community spaces and two open spaces (for hiking and wildlife viewing) are also popular.

Napa grew during the California Gold Rush and by 1900, 140 wineries were operating in the county where Napa is the County Seat. Hot air ballooning is very popular as a tourist and recreational attraction in Napa Valley and a number of professional sports teams are headquartered in nearby Sacramento, San Francisco, and Oakland.

Historic and recreational activites can be found throughout the area at Vallejo- Fairfield and the Napa Chamber of Commerce Tourist Information. Another useful site is Napa Travel Guide @ Napa Tourism.

WONDERFUL Hub Patty!!

You are getting closer to my neck of the woods!! I have lived here all my life and even I learned something new!! Thank you!!

Did you find it ironic that in one county it was wine sales at the top of the list and in the next door county it was respiratory related work?? As much as I LOVE fine wines, the grapes are grown with tons of air-dropped pesticides!!

It is lovely here however!! "Life in the postcard!!"

Thanks for sharing!! Blessings always, Earth Angel!!

JYOTI _Practice writing every day and read 250 pages daily of different genres of literature and news!

E.A. - That IS quite a connection, isn't it? I don't drink wine because it triggers a migraine (any type of wine does it)!

Hi Sweet Patty!!

Sorry to hear about the migraines!! I've never had one but it debilitated my best friend for years!! She finally got relief from oxygen therapy and wouldn't be caught dead without her portable oxygen bottle!!

Is the migraine triggered by the wine or the preservatives?? Or maybe the tanic acid?? I love a good wine and quite by accident discovered the better the wine, the less the impurities and preservatives, and the less the unpleasant side effects!!

Blessings to you sweet soul!! Earth Angel!!

I have not had any migraines in a long while, but the first was triggered when I was trapped working at a college McDonalds as a mgr. trainee on a long shift and I had never been around marijuana before -- clouds of its smoke were around everywhere and made me ill. After that, wine and most any alcohol, as well as very extreme overwork-type stress triggered them; and I am allergic to narcotics and Splenda - so I think the alcohol itself is a trigger. The only time I have had a migraine since 1996 was the one that kept me at home in bed on 9/11. I awoke to that tragedy. No headaches since that time, though.

Dearest Patty!!

I am delighted to hear migraines have not been a major inconvenience in your life for a long time!! Yes, the tragedy of 9/11 yanked the weakest link in all our immune systems that awful morning! I cried so hard my eyes welled shut and in total disbelief I just kept repeating, "the world will never be the same . . ."

We share sensitivities to many of the same things: smoke, narcotics, Splenda!! I am also reactive to aspertame, bleach and anything having to do with dry cleaning fluids!! We are like the canaries in the coal mines!!

Have a wonderful day!! Thanks again for the GREAT Hub!! I hope the Central Coast of California, around San Luis Obispo, will be on your list one day!!

Blessings always, Earth Angel!

Now that you mention it, I will surely do a Hub on the region of San Luis Obispo. Meanwhile, let us agree together to stay out of coal mines...and Splenda. :)
