Vampire Shark
69Gross Out Tuesday 8-11-09
My girls have been playing hard all summer and with less than two weeks until the start of the new school year, they have really kicked it into high gear. As a result of the extreme summer play my kids have gotten a lot of cuts and scraps up and down their little legs.
My ten year old daughter got a sore on the side of her foot last week. She swears up and down it came from her new tennis shoes. I'm not convinced. I just can't see how it is possible since she was wearing socks and the odd placement of the sore. Now a blister on her heel from her new shoes, that I can see.
The sore on her foot was starting to heal nicely. It still amazes me how fast kids can heal! The sore looked like an over-sized blister with the skin tore off. It was NOT pretty and it looked very painful. I still can't believe it didn't get infected. The sore finally scabbed over. Today however she hit her foot on something and tore the scab off.
My daughter's foot began to bleed. I'm guessing that since she had spent about four hours swimming with her aunt today that the scab was softened, making it easier to tear off. I told my daughter to go into the bathroom and find something to stop the bleeding.
Later in the evening, after the girls had finished dinner, I sat down at the kitchen island to eat my dinner. When my husband works late and is unable to eat with us I am busy getting plates, cutting meat, getting drinks, giving out second helpings and so on. Therefore it makes it almost impossible to eat with the girls. It really takes the both of us to help serve the girls so that we can eat with them. For those of you wondering, I do teach independence and the older girls serve themselves, however we still have young children that are unable.
So I sat at my kitchen island enjoying my grilled salmon. Okay, I TRIED to enjoy my dinner but I kept getting interrupted by the whining sounds of, "Mommmmmmmy, she hit meeeeeeee." I used my "big" voice to try and put an end to it but the girls know that if I just yell but don't get up they have a better chance of not getting into any real trouble. I just really wanted to eat my dinner.
I finally gave up on my dinner when my one year old came out of the bathroom with toilet paper in her mouth. I am always reminding the older girls to shut the bathroom door when they are finished using the bathroom for this very reason. My one year old finds the bathroom a fascinating place to play.
I got up from my plate and went to my baby girl to confiscate the toilet paper I assumed she pulled from the roll. After pulling the toilet paper from her mouth I realized it had not come from the roll after all. I saw that it was soaked with bright red blood and realized it had to be what my daughter used to stop her bleeding foot.
I don't know if my oldest left her bloody toilet paper on the counter or had actually put it in the trash can (my kids can never seem to find the elusive trash can). What I do know is that my youngest found it and decided it would make a nice after dinner mint.
.....and you thought this gross out had to do with the scab didn't you??

Uck. My son hates band aids, so I have to leave him bleeding penly when he scrapes his knees. Kids can be so gross.
I've never heard of a kid hating bandaids. My kids LOVE them, they will put a bandaid on anything, I can't keep them in the house! LOL

Reminds me of when my kids were little. There was always something going on, sometimes gross things like this... I cherish the times but wouldn't want to repeat them! Great hub!
